<p>Artificial intelligence hospital operations platform Chromie Health raised $2 million in pre-seed funding, alongside the launch of Chromie Dispatch—its flagship SMS AI-driven staffing agent.</p>
<p>AIX Ventures led the pre-seed round. Krish Ramadurai, AIX Ventures partner, said in a statement that the company is “building the AI agent layer for hospitals.”</p>
<p>“By tackling chaos at the unit level with a truly no-code, SMS-based solution, Chromie is poised to unlock billions in value across healthcare systems,” Ramadurai said.</p>

<p>Chromie Health CEO and co-founder Douglas Ford told Fierce Healthcare the company is rapidly growing with customer and investor demand.</p>
<p>“These funds will really help us to grow our team, help keep up with that demand, refine the product and make it even better than it already is,” Ford said. “And, most excitedly, build new AI agents to help become a full operational layer for hospitals to make the process easy of staffing and coordinating workforce.”</p>
<p>Launched in 2024, the idea behind Chromie Health was personal for Ford, who said staffing shortages complicated an already serious intensive care unit (ICU) experience for myocarditis. </p>
<p>“I personally was shocked to find out that even the large hospitals still use pen and paper whiteboards and excel sheets to manage hundreds of nurses,” Ford said. “A single last-minute call-out could trigger hours of texting, phone calls, spreadsheets and just pure chaos.”</p>
<p>Ford said the experience showed him “how overwhelmed hospitals are,” including the burnout experienced by nurses. “And it's not that they don't care or don't want the help, it's that they're struggling because the systems coordinating staffing were and are incredibly manual and reactive,” he said.</p>
<p>Ford said current staffing systems create burnout for scheduling nurses, charge nurses and managers—alongside increased overtime costs and, ultimately, impacts on patient care.</p>
<p>When a shift opens in Chromie Dispatch, the AI agent texts qualified nurses, who give a yes or no response. The tool’s proprietary ranking algorithm can select and schedule the best responders or leave it up to nursing managers. </p>

<p>Chromie Dispatch fills gaps 60 times quicker than manual scheduling, according to the company. And, according to Ford, it has already helped cover more than 35,000 last-minute nursing shifts.</p>

<p>Sarah Mitchell, nurse manager at St Joseph’s Hospital, said the unit has “significantly streamlined” last-minute scheduling needs since deploying the solution.</p>
<p>“No more scrambling through call logs or paying exorbitant agency rates,” Mitchell said. “Our staff feels supported, and we’ve already seen a 25% reduction in overtime costs.”</p>
<p>Chromie says 750 hospitals are on the waitlist for the service, which will ultimately fuel development of a “full suite of intelligent agents” aimed at streamlining workflows and optimizing workforce management.</p>
<p>“One of the biggest reasons hospitals are excited about Chromie is that we require no IT integration, no patient data,” Ford said. “We designed the system to be built incredibly lightweight, easy to deploy and with nurses in mind.”</p>
