ABSTRACT

Autistic people are overrepresented among people experiencing homelessness, and better recognition of autism may improve access to homelessness services. This study examined whether staff working in homelessness services identify autism in service users. A total of 203 staff working with people experiencing homelessness in the UK completed an online survey in which they were asked to identify a mental health or neurodevelopmental condition from five vignettes co-developed with experts by experience. Participants were most accurate at identifying more traditional presentations of autism and least accurate at identifying Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). Personal or professional connection to, and experience with, autism did not predict accuracy or whether participants said they would make adaptations. These findings suggest that recognition of more nuanced presentations of autism needs to improve. Future research should examine how adaptations are implemented in practice and how service users experience those adaptations.

ABSTRACT

Bullying during adolescence implies different forms of involvement that shape specific profiles, whose identification allows for understanding this phenomenon. However, it is essential to explore the mechanisms associated with the persistence or change of these profiles over time. Co-rumination may be crucial as a social-cognitive process in bullying development, reinforcing negative thought patterns among peers. The aim of this study was to examine involvement in bullying by identifying participation profiles and analyzing their longitudinal probability of stability or transition according to adolescents’ levels of co-rumination. A total of 1537 adolescents aged 12–16 years (54% boys and 46% girls; M
AgeT1 = 12.98, SD = 0.82) participated at two time points 1 year apart. The latent profile analysis conducted with Mplus 8.10 identified three bullying profiles: bully-victims, victims, and uninvolved, which showed stability across both time points. There was a tendency for bully-victims and victims to transition toward the uninvolved profile, although bully-victims also showed some probability of subsequently adopting the victim role. When considering co-rumination, adolescents with higher levels were more likely to belong to the victim profile across both assessments. Regarding transitions, the findings revealed that an increase in co-rumination was associated with a higher probability that victims maintain this profile, as well as with the transition of bully-victims toward victimization. These results provide a deeper understanding of the evolving dynamics of bullying profiles and offer valuable insights for designing interventions aimed at promoting effective coping strategies.

ABSTRACT

Objective

This study investigates how different couple-based geographical mobility strategies affect employment probabilities for men and women in six European countries from a gender perspective.

Background

Although geographical mobility is often linked to improved labor market outcomes, women tend to face social and economic disadvantages compared to men. This discrepancy is frequently attributed to family migration dynamics, yet the specific effects of distinct couple mobility patterns remain underexplored.

Method

Using retrospective life-history data from the SHARELIFE survey (Waves 3 and 7), this study analyzes the probability of employment among 24,780 individuals aged 50+ across Sweden, Poland, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Linear probability panel models with fixed effects are employed to examine changes in employment before and after relocation across various couple mobility configurations, stratified by education level.

Results

Men consistently gain higher employment probabilities due to geographical mobility regardless of strategy. In contrast, women’s employment probabilities show more diverse patterns: single movers and those with higher education tend to experience higher chances of employment, whereas those with medium or low education, particularly when following a partner’s move, are more likely to face reduced employment opportunities. These patterns are consistent across countries and tend to accumulate over the life course.

Conclusion

Couple mobility strategies yield gendered labor market outcomes, reinforcing inequalities in access to employment, particularly for less-educated women.

ABSTRACT

Research has investigated the outcomes of compassion-focused therapy for adult populations, with systematic reviews and meta-analyses supporting its effectiveness. Comparatively, the literature investigating compassion-focused interventions for child and adolescent populations is less developed, with fewer empirical studies to date. Most existing literature on compassion interventions has been in a group context. A systematic review was conducted to explore the state of the evidence base for compassion-focused groups used with child and adolescent clinical populations. This narrative synthesis aimed to review the methodological quality and outcomes of the published and unpublished literature. Ovid, Scopus, EBSCO and ProQuest platforms were utilised to search databases with studies from the year 2005 onwards. Nine studies were identified, including 138 participants receiving a compassion-focused intervention aged between 11 and 17 years. There was some evidence to suggest that compassion-focused groups have the potential to increase self-compassion and improve the wellbeing of children and adolescents. However, the outcomes were varied, and methodological concerns limited interpretations of results. Additionally, the heterogeneity between studies made it challenging to synthesise the literature and draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness of these groups for this population. Future research would benefit from higher quality empirical studies comparing compassion-focused groups to other interventions, alongside a greater consistency in valid outcome measure use across research.
