<p>This meta-analysis examined the effects of interventions on mathematics anxiety reduction. Interventions were classified into three categories: (a) mathematics skills-oriented interventions, which improve mathematics abilities through targeted instruction and practice; (b) mathematics anxiety-oriented interventions, which directly address mathematics anxiety using perception-based strategies (e.g., cognitive reappraisal) or physiological techniques (e.g., relaxation exercises); and (c) combined interventions that integrate both approaches. Based on 51 studies involving 7,673 participants ranging from children to adults, the results showed that for mathematics anxiety reduction, combined mathematics skills and mathematics anxiety interventions were the most effective (<em>g</em> = −1.09), followed by mathematics anxiety-oriented interventions (<em>g</em> = −0.71), and mathematics skills-oriented interventions (<em>g</em> = −0.37). For students with high mathematics anxiety, mathematics anxiety-oriented interventions yielded the best outcomes. Perception interventions were more effective than physiological interventions. For mathematics performance outcomes, only mathematics skills-oriented interventions were effective. These findings suggest that insufficient mathematics ability may be a causal factor for mathematics anxiety. The impact of mathematics anxiety reduction on mathematics performance may not be immediate. Combined mathematics skills and mathematics anxiety interventions are the most effective in reducing mathematics anxiety. Focusing solely on mathematics skills remains the most cost-effective approach. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<p>In light of increased migration from sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to Hamilton in the past 5 years, this qualitative study explores the experiences of Black African migrant parents resettling in Hamilton, Canada. Using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, four key themes emerged: (1) impact of migration and family separation stress on psychosocial well-being, (2) complexities in navigating various systems in Canada, (3) shifting identities within parenting and gender roles and (4) adaptive responses to stress caused by family separation and unmet basic needs (daily stressors). The findings highlight structural determinants of health, such as discriminatory immigration policies delaying family reunification. The study emphasises the critical role of social workers in addressing these challenges through culturally responsive interventions. Policy recommendations include co-designed resources for transnational parenting, addressing food insecurity, tailoring mental health interventions to different coping styles and integrating social work practices to support the psychosocial well-being of Black African migrant families.</p>

<p>To examine how expectations and actual division of child care labor relate to life goal satisfaction among first-time and multiparous birthing parents.</p>

<p>The unequal division of child care labor between birthing parents and partners is well-documented, yet its impact on life goal satisfaction remains unclear.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>Participants included 132 birthing parents (M age = 31.45, SD = 4.72) and 100 partners in heterosexual relationships, 56% of whom were first-time parents. Expected division of child care labor was assessed during pregnancy (for 1 month) and at 1 month postpartum (for 6 months). Actual labor division was reported at 1 and 6 months, with life goal satisfaction measured at 6 and 12 months. Mixed-effects models examined longitudinal associations between expectations, actual labor, and life goal satisfaction.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Birthing parents expected and performed more child care labor than their partners, a pattern confirmed by partner reports. After adjusting for actual labor performed, birthing parents who anticipated doing more child care themselves reported lower life goal satisfaction, whereas those expecting greater partner involvement had higher satisfaction. Patterns varied based on prior parenting experience.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Expectations about child care labor may shape later life goal satisfaction. Addressing anticipated labor division during the perinatal period could enhance parental well-being and family functioning.</p>

                        <p><h2>Background</h2>
<p>Tourette syndrome (TS) is a childhood-onset neuropsychiatric condition characterized by motor and vocal tics. Many individuals with TS continue to experience tics and functional difficulties into adulthood, yet the factors influencing these long-term trajectories remain poorly understood. Cognitive control processes, implicated in the etiology and treatment of TS, may serve as indicators of later clinical and functional outcomes.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>This study tested whether childhood cognitive control predicted outcomes in early adulthood. Participants were 80 individuals with TS (<i>M</i><br>
<sub>age</sub> = 22.8 years, <i>SD</i> = 2.7) who had entered a randomized clinical trial of behavioral therapy as children and completed a follow-up evaluation an average of 11.7 years (<i>SD</i> = 1.3) later. Childhood assessments measured tic severity and neurocognitive domains, including processing speed, inhibition, set-shifting, and working memory. Follow-up assessments evaluated clinical, functional, and quality of life outcomes.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Results showed that greater inhibition, set-shifting, and processing speed in childhood predicted lower tic severity and impairment, greater odds of tic remission, and higher quality of life in early adulthood. Greater working memory and response flexibility predicted higher educational attainment and income. These relationships remained significant after accounting for treatment conditions and comorbid attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Findings highlight childhood cognitive control as an important predictor of clinical and functional outcomes in TS and a viable target for intervention.</p>

                        <p><h2>Abstract</h2>
<h2>Objective</h2>
<p>The purpose of this project is to engage parent researchers in piloting a data collection process to measure program impact. Specifically, in this Lessons from the Field article, we outline the process of combining characteristics of evaluation and action research methodologies to involve attendees of Parent University (Parent U) as researchers in designing and implementing this pilot study.</p>
<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Measuring the impact of family-school-community programs is challenging due to the numerous contextual factors that influence these programs and the families they serve. Parent U is a nonprofit parenting education program that has served Savannah, Georgia, for over 25 years. Based on previously collected focus group data, we worked with Parent U to research an appropriate outcome measure.</p>
<h2>Experience</h2>
<p>We outline the process of engaging parent researchers in program evaluation, including brainstorming, parent recruitment, survey design, ethics training, and data collection, illustrating how parent perspectives informed the resulting design. Initial survey data from two parent participant cohorts (<i>N</i> = 31 each) are presented. Challenges, successes, and lessons within the process are included.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Data collected by parent researchers demonstrated good reliability for our survey measures, positive correlations between measures, and preliminary evidence of perceived change over time. We reflect on the meaning of the impact data collected and the contextual outcomes related to family-school-community programming.</p>

<h2>Objective</h2>
<p>Emerging evidence indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on mental health globally, including an increase in the incidence of eating disorders. This study aims to characterize individuals diagnosed with anorexia and bulimia nervosa in Colombia and to estimate changes in the monthly age- and sex-adjusted treatment prevalence before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>An ecological observational time series study was conducted, estimating the monthly treatment prevalence of anorexia and bulimia in Colombia from 2011 to 2023, adjusted by sex and age. Data were extracted from national administrative records and corrected for underreporting. Pre- and post-pandemic onset trends were compared using non-parametric tests and segmented regression models.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Between 2011 and 2023, 54,471 individuals received treatment for anorexia or bulimia in Colombia. Most cases occurred among women and individuals aged 15–29 years. The adjusted monthly treatment prevalence of anorexia ranged from 0.06 to 0.5 per 100,000 population, and bulimia from 0.11 to 0.82. Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the median monthly number of visits for anorexia increased by 120% (<i>p</i> < 0.01) and for bulimia by 18.1% (<i>p</i> = 0.07). Significant inflection points were identified, with heterogeneous increases observed across departments. Antioquia exhibited the highest monthly percentage increase for both conditions.</p>
<h2>Discussion</h2>
<p>The observed increase in health care utilization for anorexia and bulimia following the pandemic suggests a substantial impact of the health crisis on eating disorders. These findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen mental health services and to develop evidence-based, targeted interventions to address the growing burden of these conditions in Colombia.</p>

<p>This study examines the standard employment life course among the post-war generation in five countries traditionally classified as liberal and investigates variations in the pluralisation and differentiation of life course employment patterns within liberal welfare states. Using retrospective data from five liberal-leaning countries (England, Ireland, Switzerland, the United States, and Chile) we reconstruct men’s and women’s working trajectories from ages 15 to 65. Our sequence analysis reveals inconsistent levels of pluralisation across these countries but a consistent trend towards greater differentiation. We also find that gender and educational differences do not uniformly account for these patterns. The findings challenge the notion of all-pervasive standard employment within this generation and demonstrate that even nations sharing similar welfare typologies can produce divergent life course outcomes. We conclude that historical legacies, cultural norms, and market deregulations shape diverse employment pathways, underlining the need for comparative, longitudinal approaches. Implications for comparative research and potential policy levers are discussed cautiously.</p>
