This troubles us. But we understand how it can happen: When people feel overwhelmed by anxiety or intrusive thoughts, it can be easier to turn to a computer rather than a person. The chatbot won’t laugh at its users, berate them or ignore them. It’s always available. The typical chatbot response feels comforting; A.I. responses are designed to be warm, confident and validating.</p>

<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Although allyship has the potential to foster inclusivity and bring about social change, its consequences have received too little attention in the literature. In the current contribution, we aim to review the allyship literature by focusing on the consequences of (1) individual-, (2) organizational-, and (3) societal-level allyship. We also aim to differentiate these consequences based on whether they are perceived or labeled as positive (e.g., constructive or productive) or negative (e.g., destructive or counterproductive). By synthesizing existing interdisciplinary findings on the consequences of allyship, we provide an integrative review that highlights both its positive and negative consequences at three levels, as well as their potential targets (i.e., individual group members, organizations, and societies). We conclude the article by providing actionable recommendations for both researchers seeking to advance allyship literature, and policymakers and practitioners in the field.</p>

<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<h2>Objectives</h2>
<p>Men with presentations consistent with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) are highly visible in community and forensic services. However, mis/underdiagnosis may be a consequence of their lower than expected engagement with mental health services, and when they do engage, systematised diagnostic biases may inaccurately differentiate these two subtypes. Given the substantial harms experienced by men who have personality disorder (PD), it is important to understand how personality disorder can be better identified and supported in clinical and forensic settings.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>Ten nationally and internationally recognised clinician participants who have expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of men with PD (80% male; 60% psychologists, 40% psychiatrists) participated in individual, semi-structured qualitative interviews. Participants shared their observations regarding PD presentations in men and recommendations for maximising treatment engagement in community and forensic settings. Transcripts from the 60–90-min interviews were analysed using inductive and deductive thematic analysis.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>The analysis identified four themes: Getting men through the door, Unmasking Complexity, Holding Steady in the Face of Risk, and Addressing Shame through Connection. Men with BPD tend to under-report their symptoms and distrust mental health services. Clinicians may struggle to differentiate BPD from ASPD, as men’s emotional dysregulation often manifests as anger. Participants emphasised appealing to the person’s self-interest, building a trusting therapeutic alliance, and carefully addressing shame to facilitate treatment engagement.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Half of the expert clinicians were employed in forensic settings where men with BPD are disproportionately prevalent, rendering their perspectives especially valuable. Assessment of empathetic functioning can help counterbalance clinicians’ overemphasis on aggressive behaviours when differentiating BPD from ASPD in men. Incorporation of gendered attributes and targeting associated defensive barriers may improve treatment engagement and effectiveness for men with personality disorder.</p>

<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>While social group memberships can support people’s health-known as the Social Cure-we suggest that those same memberships can hamper people’s health. This study investigates whether in-group identification can decrease help-seeking beliefs for mental health. Building on social identity theory and the multiple identity integration model, we predicted that members of the Irish Defence Forces will show less positive help-seeking beliefs for mental health issues the more they identify with their military in-group and that this relationship is explained by mismatching group stereotypes. We assessed in-group identification with the military, stereotypes towards people with mental health issues, stereotypes towards the military in-group, and help-seeking beliefs for mental health issues of 109 current and previous members of the Irish Defence Forces. Correlational results support the prediction that stronger military in-group identification is associated with less positive help-seeking beliefs for mental health issues and that this relationship is explained by stronger mismatch in respective group stereotypes. This research contributes to a better understanding of the issue of low help-seeking for mental health issues and the high suicide rates in military organisations. It suggests that interventions aiming to decrease perceptions of misfit of people in the military and people who encounter mental health issues could help to increase help-seeking within military contexts.</p>

<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Despite international efforts to implement a rights-based approach in services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), concerns about rights violations—both overt and subtle—remain present in everyday practice. This study examines the perceptions of 1134 professionals working in IDD services across 10 Spanish regions regarding the extent to which service users’ rights are respected, their needs and preferences are addressed, and the emotional and attitudinal responses of staff. Findings indicate that while most professionals perceived general respect for rights, important concerns were reported regarding specific areas, particularly privacy, social inclusion, and legal recognition. Longer professional tenure was associated with a greater likelihood of reporting perceived shortcomings in rights implementation. Emotional responses such as pity, overprotection, and ambivalence were more frequently reported when professionals worked with individuals with higher support needs. Notably, 27.7% of respondents believed that the right to privacy was not adequately respected, and 38.7% identified lack of attention as a form of inappropriate treatment. These findings highlight the ethical relevance of professional perceptions and organizational practices and underscore the need for ongoing ethical reflection and service-level improvement. Interpreted within the framework of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Quality of Life Supports Model, the results point to the importance of aligning everyday support practices with person-centered and rights-based principles.</p>

<p>Family caregivers in Thailand play a pivotal role in supporting older adults with chronic illness, often under considerable emotional and practical strain. Understanding family resilience is essential for designing culturally responsive interventions. Walsh’s family resilience framework offers a strong theoretical foundation; however, no validated Thai-language instrument has been available.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>A cross-sectional sample of 224 caregivers completed the Thai WFRQ, along with the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale–10 (CD-RISC-10) and the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI). Psychometric analyses included confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency, and tests of convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validity.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>The Thai WFRQ showed excellent reliability and confirmed the original third-order, three-domain factor structure. Validity was supported by strong factor loadings and appropriate indicators of construct validity. Concurrent validity was evidenced by positive correlations with resilience and negative correlations with caregiver burden.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>The Thai WFRQ is a reliable and culturally appropriate tool for assessing family resilience among Thai caregivers.</p>
<h2>Implications</h2>
<p>This study supports clinical assessment, program development, and research, while contributing to caregiver well-being in Thailand’s aging society and advancing global understanding of resilience in collectivist cultures.</p>

<p><p><sec><st>Background</st></sec></p>
<p>Parental death has well-established adverse effects on the mental health of children and adolescents, but evidence on adults is scarce. Also, the role of siblings has not been assessed before, even though siblings might be an important source of support during parental death.</p>
<p><sec><st>Methods</st></sec></p>
<p>We conducted a national cohort study to examine psychotropic medication purchases (antidepressants, anxiolytics, hypnotics and sedatives) before and after parental death and assessed differences by sibship size and sex of the offspring. We estimated annual probabilities of psychotropic medication purchases for 6 years surrounding parental death and compared men and women experiencing parental death from 2006 to 2016 at ages 35–55 years to a synthetic control group not experiencing parental deaths.</p>
<p><sec><st>Results</st></sec></p>
<p>We showed increased psychotropic medication purchases in the year before and after parental death. These associations were strongest for those with no or fewer siblings and among women. For example, after mother’s death, we observed an increase of 6.8 (95% CI 5.8 to 7.8) percentage points (pp) in psychotropic medication prevalence for women with no siblings in contrast to women whose mother did not die. For women with 1, 2 or 3 siblings, the respective differences were 6.1 (95% CI 5.5 to 6.8), 4.7 (95% CI 4.0 to 5.4) and 3.9 (95% CI 3.0 to 4.8) pp increases. The associations were also stronger after maternal than paternal death.</p>
<p><sec><st>Conclusions</st></sec></p>
<p>The findings may indicate that the burden of parental death is less substantial when several siblings are present. The more pronounced association among women may reflect gendered differences in treatment-seeking.</p>

<p><p><sec><st>Background</st></sec></p>
<p>People who do not smoke can be involuntarily exposed to tobacco smoke through direct exposure, known as secondhand smoke (SHS), and indirect exposure to residual tobacco-derived pollutants that persist in indoor environments, known as thirdhand smoke (THS). To protect people who do not smoke from the adverse health effects of passive smoking, the Korean government has implemented and progressively expanded smoke-free zones since 1995.</p>
<p><sec><st>Methods</st></sec></p>
<p>This study assessed the effectiveness of these policies in Korea by analysing temporal trends of urinary cotinine concentrations among 16 193 adults who do not smoke from the Korean National Environmental Health Survey Cycle I–IV (2009–2020). To explain the recent cotinine trend change, further analysis was conducted by stratifying people who do not smoke based on passive smoke status: (1) non-exposure group, no SHS exposure and no person who smokes at home; (2) SHS-exposure group, with SHS exposure; (3) cohabiting-with-people who smoke group, no SHS exposure but living with person/people who smoke(s) at home.</p>
<p><sec><st>Results</st></sec></p>
<p>Sex and age-adjusted urinary cotinine concentrations in adults who do not smoke declined markedly from 3.05 μg/L in 2009 to 0.80 μg/L in 2014, followed by a slight increase thereafter to 1.97 μg/L in 2020. Between 2015 and 2020, the cohabiting-with-people-who-smoke group presented higher urinary cotinine concentrations compared with the non-exposure and SHS-exposure groups, suggesting that persistent nicotine uptake of people who do not smoke may be due to the growing contribution of THS and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), which might explain the post-2014 increase.</p>
<p><sec><st>Conclusion</st></sec></p>
<p>Our findings provide biomonitoring evidence that Korea’s smoke-free policies effectively reduced SHS exposure, but the effects have plateaued in recent years, revealing emerging challenges to mitigate THS exposure and indoor e-cigarette use. Evidence-based smoke-free strategies reflecting real-world smoking behaviours are needed to ensure equitable protection of people who do not smoke across different exposure settings and to sustain a smoke-free environment.</p>
