<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Advance care planning (ACP) supports seriously ill individuals in identifying and communicating their values and preferences for future care. However, disparities in ACP engagement persist, particularly among African American older adults. This study examined racial differences and predictors of readiness to engage in ACP among seriously ill African American and White older adults.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>This cross-sectional analysis used baseline data from the EQUAL ACP cluster randomized trial testing two ACP interventions. Participants included 792 community-dwelling, non-Hispanic African American (<i>n</i> = 428) and White (<i>n</i> = 364) adults aged 65 and older with serious illness or multimorbidity, recruited from 10 primary care clinics across five Southern U.S. states. Readiness to engage in ACP was measured using a four-item scale assessing willingness to discuss and document care preferences. Predictor variables included religiosity, beliefs about death and dying, perceived discrimination and trust, provider communication, treatment preferences, and self-rated health. Mixed-effects regression models were used to examine predictors of ACP readiness in the overall sample and racial subgroups.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Overall ACP readiness did not significantly differ by race. Across racial groups, greater comfort discussing death was associated with greater ACP readiness. Among African American participants, frequent religious service attendance was associated with higher ACP readiness (mean difference = 0.28; 95% CI: 0.08–0.47). Among White participants, a preference for pain relief over life extension in their current health status was associated with higher readiness (mean difference = 0.25; 95% CI: 0.05–0.45). Trust in providers, experiences of discrimination, and ratings of provider communication were not significantly associated with ACP readiness.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Although mean readiness scores were similar, predictors varied by race. Religious attendance may facilitate ACP readiness among African American patients, while comfort-focused treatment preferences appear more influential among White patients. Culturally tailored strategies are needed to equitably support ACP engagement among older adults.</p>

<h2>Objectives</h2>
<p>Studies of unusual sensory experiences, like hallucinations, in people at risk of psychosis usually focus on auditory experiences. This study explored how common experiences across a range of sensory modalities were in people at an ultra-high risk of developing psychosis. Particular attention was paid to the number of modalities reported and their impact. It was hypothesised that people reporting a greater number of modalities of hallucinations would report greater levels of general distress, more delusional ideation, lower emotional well-being and poorer functioning. In addition, the contribution of sleep problems and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in the reporting of hallucinations in different modalities was explored.</p>
<h2>Design</h2>
<p>A single-group cross-sectional design was used.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>People at an ultra-high risk of developing psychosis completed measures of hallucinations, delusions, general distress, functioning, emotional well-being, trauma and sleep.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Nearly all participants reported hallucinations in the auditory domain. They also reported a range of other unusual sensory experiences, with visual and somatic/tactile hallucinations being reported by over half. Single sensory experiences or unimodal hallucinations were less common than hallucinations in two or more modalities, which were reported by 88% of the participants. The number of modalities of hallucinations was significantly associated with greater general distress, delusional ideation, reduced emotional well-being and to some extent functioning. PTSD and sleep were identified as potential causal factors for hallucinations across modalities.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Psychological therapies need to account for these experiences and could feasibly target them with treatments that focus on sleep or trauma.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>This study evaluates the effectiveness of a short-term, solution-focused group intervention designed to support the psychosocial development of children living in residential care. The intervention was implemented under the leadership of a psychiatric nurse in close collaboration with a social worker, providing rare experimental evidence on interdisciplinary practice and offering an original contribution to the field of social work. The study was designed as a randomized controlled trial with a pre-test–post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 57 children residing in state-run residential institutions who were randomly assigned to an intervention group (<i>n</i> = 29) or a control group (<i>n</i> = 28). The intervention comprised six group sessions structured in accordance with the core principles of solution-focused therapy. Data were collected using the Children’s Hope Scale and the Social Skills Scale and were analysed using nonparametric statistical tests. Following the intervention, a statistically significant increase in children’s hope levels was observed (<i>p</i> < 0.05), whereas improvements in social skills approached but did not reach statistical significance (<i>p</i> = 0.054). Effect size analyses indicated a moderate effect on hope (Cohen’s <i>d</i> = 0.56) and a small effect on social skills (Cohen’s <i>d</i> = 0.27). These findings suggest that solution-focused interventions are effective in enhancing children’s hope, while the development of social skills may require longer-term or more comprehensive and context-sensitive interventions commonly addressed within child welfare and social work practice. Overall, the study demonstrates that a short-term solution-focused group intervention implemented within a child welfare framework through close collaboration between social work and psychiatric nursing leads to meaningful improvements in children’s hope levels. Although short-term gains in social skills were limited, the findings underscore the value of interdisciplinary, social work-led intervention models that integrate strengths-based and participation-oriented social work practice with the therapeutic contributions of psychiatric nurses, offering a practice-oriented, evidence-based, and original approach to advancing psychosocial support for children living in institutional care.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>The current study aimed to estimate the prevalence of clinically significant depression and anxiety symptoms in young adults with DSM-5–confirmed specific learning disorders (SLDs) in Saudi Arabia and to develop machine learning (ML) models to identify individuals at elevated risk. In this cross-sectional study, 439 young adults were recruited via online advertisements. They underwent structured clinical interviews administered by licensed psychologists or psychiatrists to confirm their SLD diagnosis in accordance with DSM-5 criteria. Depression and anxiety were assessed using validated self-report measures (BDI-II ≥ 20 for depression; BAI ≥ 16 for anxiety). Clinically significant depression was observed in 175 of 439 participants (39.9%), and clinically significant anxiety in 151 of 439 participants (34.4%). Recursive feature elimination identified key predictors for depression (SLD severity, female gender, burnout and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]) and anxiety (insomnia, age, SLD subtype, ADHD, and SLD severity). Four supervised ML algorithms (logistic regression, random forests, extreme gradient boosting [XGBoost], and support vector machine [SVM]) were tuned using 10-fold cross-validation within the training set and evaluated on a held-out test set (30% stratified split). These results indicate that depression and anxiety are highly prevalent among Saudi young adults with clinically confirmed SLD, and ML models can accurately identify those at the highest risk. Findings highlight SLD severity, insomnia and comorbid ADHD as key factors for early intervention in educational and clinical settings.</p>

                        <p><h2>Abstract</h2>
<p>Large language model (LLM) chatbots have rapidly emerged as powerful tools in education, offering new avenues to support social and emotional learning (SEL). Literature lacks synthesis studies related to SEL competencies and how LLM chatbots are used to foster them, that is, affordances. Therefore, this systematic mapping review categorizes and synthesizes current literature on the utilization of LLM chatbots for SEL development in higher education. Following PRISMA, we screened and analysed 43 peer-reviewed studies, identifying 15 competencies across six SEL domains (cognitive, emotional, social, values, perspectives and identity), and 19 LLM chatbot affordances across 7 genres. Findings show that cognitive competencies (e.g., critical thinking, metacognition) and identity competencies (e.g., self-efficacy, agency) are most frequently targeted, whereas values and perspective domains remain underrepresented. The most common affordances were immediate personalized feedback, information retrieval and interactive question and answer. We also addressed five ethical risks (transparency, privacy, equality, beneficence and affect/identity safety). We proposed an SEL development framework for higher education students using LLM chatbots. By focusing on these specific competencies and affordances, researchers can contribute to the advancement of SEL through the innovative use of LLM chatbots. We encourage researchers to conduct more studies to expand this framework by adding, removing or revising the competencies and affordances.</p>

<h2>Context and implications</h2>
<p><b>Rationale for this study:</b> While large language model (LLM) chatbots are increasingly used in education, no comprehensive review existed to synthesize how their specific affordances map into the development of distinct social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies. A review is needed to address this critical gap for designing effective, ethically aware educational interventions in education.</p>
<p><b>Why the new findings matter:</b> This review provides the first structured framework linking 19 LLM affordances to 15 SEL competencies. The framework reveals a significant imbalance in development focus (e.g., cognitive overvalues) and a widespread lack of essential ethical safeguards, which is crucial for maximizing benefits and minimizing risks.</p>
<p><b>Implications:</b> For researchers, it provides a foundational SEL–LLM framework and agenda to explore underrepresented domains (e.g., values). Practitioners (educators, instructional designers) can use the affordance-competency map to design targeted SEL interventions. Policy-makers should prioritize ethical guidelines and support the development of specialized, equitable LLM tools for SEL.</p>
