                        <p><p>Thrift shopping, or “thrifting,” has gained widespread popularity over the past 15+ years. Sociological inquiry into thrifting has linked the phenomenon to a wide-ranging blend of conditions and factors that principally include economic necessity, resistance to economic, environmental, and labor injustices, and hedonism. Yet, how thrift shoppers come to engage thrifting as an agentic, identity-forming process remains relatively neglected in the relevant literatures. This article introduces a new theoretical perspective to this body of research that centers on a reciprocal dynamic between human and material agency that spurs and sustains thrifting as a form of reflexive consumption and identity work. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 37 undergraduate student thrift shoppers at an American public research university. I articulate three core elements that characterize thrifting as a form of reflexive consumption and identity work: (1) initial thrifting experiences, (2) reflexivity and self-formation, and (3) agentic reciprocation. The study empirically shows how thrifting can be an agentic act underpinned by a reciprocal dynamic that turns on materiality, reflexivity, and ongoing identity work.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Pursuing a goal often requires sustained effort and commitment, sometimes for longer than one hoped or expected. When people face delays in achieving their goals, they may become impatient—and when they believe they are the cause of those delays, they may feel impatient with themselves. In this paper, we present a novel theoretical approach to understanding such moments of self-impatience, adapted from the <i>process model of patience</i>. This approach positions self-impatience as an emotional response to self-caused delays that are unreasonable or inappropriate. To be patient with oneself, then, means to successfully regulate the feeling or consequences of self-impatience. We outline our theoretical model of self-patience, the <i>process model of self-patience</i>, highlighting where it overlaps with and deviates from the original model. We then close with suggestions for future research that derive from our theoretical proposals.</p>

<h2>Objective</h2>
<p>This brief report examines how couples’ education pairings relate to their work-family arrangements in the United States from 1968 to 2023, focusing on differently educated couples.</p>
<h2>Background</h2>
<p>The reversal of the gender gap in education has increased couples where women have more education than their male partners, with implications for how couples divide paid and unpaid labor; yet research on historical trends in work-family arrangements has often overlooked the gendered nature of educational resources within couples.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>Using the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (1968–2023), we categorize couples into six work-family arrangements and analyze the changing associations between education pairings and work-family arrangements over time using multinomial logistic regression models.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Work-family arrangements are stratified by gender and education. Hypogamous couples show a higher likelihood of her-second-shift and egalitarian arrangements with a declining probability of male-breadwinner arrangements. Hypergamous couples maintain the highest male-breadwinner probability and are underrepresented where women’s labor market participation equals or exceeds men’s. Hypogamous and hypergamous patterns appear across all educational levels but are most pronounced at completion thresholds, particularly college graduation. Among egalitarian and her-second-shift arrangements, educational gradients are stronger and more continuous across levels among hypogamous than hypergamous couples.</p>
<h2>Implications</h2>
<p>Educational resources operate distinctly by gender within couples, underscoring the importance of distinguishing between differently educated couples rather than using gender-neutral measures of couple-level education when studying work-family dynamics.</p>

<p>This study examined the crossover effect of paternal job insecurity on youth’s perceived employability. Integrating crossover theory with conservation of resources theory, we posited that paternal job insecurity negatively impacted youth’s perceived employability through youth’s perceived paternal career support. As well, we hypothesized that maternal financial contribution to the household and emotional support for youth influence this indirect relationship. Data were collected from a sample of undergraduate students and their fathers in Singapore. Results supported the crossover effect of paternal job insecurity on youth’s perceived employability through youth’s perceived paternal career support. Maternal financial contribution to the household weakened the negative indirect relationship between paternal job insecurity and youth’s employability, while maternal emotional support for youth did not significantly moderate this relationship. This research advances our understanding of the crossover effect of paternal job insecurity on youth and identifies an important boundary condition that mitigates the negative effect of paternal job insecurity.</p>

<p>Participation is a key issue for children moving to a shelter for victims of domestic violence. To get information, be consulted and be able to take part in decisions regarding the move could potentially make the often hasty and unplanned transition to and stay in an unfamiliar context easier for the child and support the child’s sense of coherence in spite of a challenging situation. There is currently a lack of research on methods aiding children’s participation. The aim of the current study is to explore how the practice model Good Dialogues, which is intended to facilitate and enhance children’s participation, is put into practice in a women’s shelter context. Drawing on a pilot project with interviews with practitioners in a women’s shelter in Sweden, and a sample of audio recorded Good Dialogues conversations between practitioners and children, the study shows that implementation of this method is possible in a shelter context and that it can be put into practice as intended: to enhance children’s participation. However, more research is needed to fully understand how this practice model works in a shelter context and how participation for children in shelters for victims of domestic violence can be enhanced in the best way possible.</p>

<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>We searched six databases for systematic, scoping, rapid, or narrative reviews of functioning, QOL, or well-being OMIs for 6-to-24-year-olds with primary mental health concerns. We separately retrieved original development/validation reports for each OMI and extracted information on the target construct and key design characteristics. For a subset of OMIs, we descriptively appraised essential features of OMI development quality.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>We identified 80 OMIs of functioning (<i>n</i> = 35), QOL (<i>n</i> = 33), and well-being (<i>n</i> = 12). Two-thirds were developed for children and youth up to 18 years, but none targeted young adults aged 19–24. Functioning OMIs were frequently designed for multi-informant assessment; QOL and well-being OMIs were mainly self-reported. Most functioning OMIs were originally validated in populations with mental health difficulties, unlike OMIs of QOL and well-being. For over one quarter of OMIs, the target construct was misclassified in at least one review, with frequent conflation of QOL and well-being.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Mental health difficulties impact life across functioning, QOL, and well-being. Life impact is a core outcome to track in clinical research and practice. This review provides a roadmap to selecting OMIs of life impact in youth mental health based on OMI design characteristics.</p>

<h2>Objective</h2>
<p>This study explored individual and program factors associated with engagement in early childhood parenting programs in the United Arab Emirates.</p>
<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Parenting programs can improve caregiver well-being, parenting skills, and child outcomes, but their success relies on effective recruitment and sustained participation. Identifying valued incentives and key program features is essential to maximize impact.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>Stakeholder focus groups informed the design of a bilingual (Arabic/English) anonymous online survey (<i>N</i> = 491; 87% mothers, 13% fathers). Ranked data analysis included mean rankings, pairwise comparisons, marginal frequencies, and unfolding multidimensional scaling. Chi-square tests examined parental training preferences.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Most respondents (85%) had never attended a parenting program but reported preferring weekend morning sessions, hybrid learning, and a 4-week format with weekly 2-hour sessions. Incentives were considered crucial, with parents favoring developmental and community-focused rewards, as well as tangible child-related benefits, typically exceeding 300 AED ($82) per session. Key engagement factors included relevant topics, clear objectives, and friendly, knowledgeable trainers.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
