                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Repair can help extend clothing lifecycles. However, clothing repair is infrequent in high-income countries, especially among young adults who often lack practical repair skills. In this quasi-experiment, we tested whether a group workshop could motivate repair and reduce consumption in young adults. Participants were assigned to a skill-based workshop (<i>n</i> = 62) or a control group (<i>n</i> = 51) that only received a persuasive message about clothing repair. The workshop strongly increased self-efficacy both immediately after the workshop and 4 weeks later. The workshop did not impact environmental attitudes or emotions associated with repair, but workshop participants identified more with others who repair and reported moderately higher intentions to repair their clothes (but these effects were only short-term). The workshop did not increase the number of self-reported repairs nor reduce purchases 4 weeks later. There was some evidence for lower disposals at follow-up (but the effect was uncertain). A single workshop may thus spark motivation but not materialise in behaviour changes 4 weeks later. This study highlights that hands-on practice can boost self-efficacy and demonstrates how quasi-experimental designs with follow-up surveys can contribute to understanding the potential of behavioural interventions.</p>

                        <p><h2>Abstract</h2>
<h2>Objective</h2>
<p>The goal was to test a developmental model incorporating various parent and child effects.</p>
<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Approaches offered to describe child development include attachment, transactional, and cascade perspectives, but research testing these three theories simultaneously has been lacking.</p>
<h2>Method</h2>
<p>We investigated whether early parental sensitivity predicted later child competence, child cognitive competence and socioemotional competence predicted one another, transactional relations existed between parental sensitivity and child competence, and the association between parental sensitivity and child competence was moderated by child gender. Indirect effects between parental sensitivity and child competence were examined. Multiple-informant data from a multiethnic sample of children and their families followed from ages 3 to 10 years (<i>N</i> = 1,364, 48% female) were analyzed using the cross-lagged panel model and multiple-group analysis in structural equation modeling. Indirect effects were tested using bootstrap.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Parental sensitivity predicted later child competence (eight out of 18 paths, 44%), child cognitive competence and socioemotional competence predicted one another (three out of eight paths, 38%), and transactional relations between parental sensitivity and child competence existed (18 out of 32 paths, 56%). Two moderation effects by child gender were identified (out of 40 paths, 5%). Cascade and transactional indirect effects lasted between 3.5 to 5.5 years (14 out of 39 paths, 36%).</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>Children receiving higher parental sensitivity from early through middle childhood generally show better socioemotional and cognitive competence later, and child effects on parents are also evident.</p>
<h2>Implications</h2>
<p>Transactional effects between parental sensitivity and child competence across a longer time span merit further investigation.</p>

<p>Aspiring antiracist White parents report feeling stuck and uncertain about how to socialize their young White children into antiracism. Most of the scholarship focused on this population, their ideas, and practices overlooks the intersection of their class positionalities with their attitudes and behaviors regarding antiracist parenting. The present study offers insights into the dynamics of class-related beliefs and antiracist socialization among middle- to upper-middle-class White parents. Using methods informed by critical thematic analysis, we interrogated the in-depth interviews of 19 White parents of young White children who self-identified as antiracist. All parents in the sample identified as middle class, and all but one parent identified as women. We find that, despite the sincere intentions of this group, these parents, through rhetorical and behavioral processes, ultimately evade acknowledging for themselves and with their children the material ways in which their families benefit from and maintain an unjust status quo. We describe three interrelated themes that characterize the prevailing patterns of ideas and behaviors among our parent participants on this subject: class confusion, class attribution error, and complexity avoidance. We argue that these patterns reflect the embeddedness of these parents within the dominant racial and class regimes of contemporary U.S. society: White supremacy and neoliberalism. Our discussion highlights the inconsistencies and contradictions in our participants’ beliefs and practices and highlights ideological blinders that antiracist interventions can address to help parents counteract the influence of these systems and more fully realize their antiracist parenting goals. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

                        <p><p>Bobier <i>et al</i><cross-ref type="bib" refid="R1">1</cross-ref> provide a sobering challenge to the optimistic ‘panacea’ narrative of xenotransplantation. They argue that even with technical parity to allotransplantation, xenotransplantation will fail to solve the organ shortage due to social stigma, religious hesitancy and economic bottlenecks. While I welcome their caution, I believe their argument relies on an ‘observer bias’: it prioritises the attitudes of healthy individuals over the clinical reality of patients facing terminal organ failure.</p>
<p>The authors cite several surveys<cross-ref type="bib" refid="R2">2 3</cross-ref><cross-ref type="bib" refid="R3"></cross-ref> suggesting high levels of public hesitancy towards xenotransplantation. However, these studies often focus on populations not directly affected by organ failure, such as the Spanish Gypsy community or Latin-American residents. There is a fundamental ethical and psychological gap between a healthy individual’s theoretical ‘distaste’ for porcine organs and a patient’s life-saving necessity.</p>

                        <p><p><sec><st>Introduction</st></sec></p>
<p>The Netherlands implemented a supermarket tobacco sales ban on 1 July 2024. This study aimed to evaluate supermarkets’ compliance with the ban and potential unintended impacts on tobacco availability at tobacco points of sale (POS) in areas around supermarkets.</p>
<p><sec><st>Methods</st></sec></p>
<p>A longitudinal pre–post study was conducted in three Dutch cities: Amsterdam, Haarlem and Zwolle. In total, 114 supermarkets and their surrounding area (200 m radius buffer) were included. Data were collected in 2021 (pre-ban) and 2025 (post-ban). The study examined (1) supermarkets’ compliance with the tobacco sales ban and (2) change in the number of alternative POS, presence of alternative POS (yes/no) and distance to the closest alternative POS within the buffer. Poisson, logistic and linear generalised estimating equations models were applied.</p>
<p><sec><st>Results</st></sec></p>
<p>All included supermarkets complied with the ban. The number of alternative POS within 200 m of supermarkets was significantly lower post-ban, with an average reduction of 31% (incidence rate ratio (IRR)=0.69, 95% CI 0.61 to 0.77, p<0.001). The number of tobacco specialist shops increased, while other POS types (including other supermarkets) decreased. There was a non-significant reduction in the odds of an alternative POS being present around supermarkets (OR=0.86, 95% CI 0.65 to 1.13, p=0.283) and an increase in average distance from the supermarket to the closest alternative POS (<i>B</i>=6.42 m, 95% CI –0.36 to 13.2, p=0.063).</p>
<p><sec><st>Conclusion</st></sec></p>
<p>After implementing the supermarket tobacco sales ban, there were fewer POS of tobacco around supermarkets in three Dutch cities, but this change did not demonstrably reduce availability within 200 m of supermarkets.</p>

                        <p><p><sec><st>Objective</st></sec></p>
<p>Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) have seen a global surge in their usage. However, their role in smoking initiation, particularly among non-smokers, remains a critical concern. This umbrella review evaluated the risk of tobacco-smoking initiation following ENDS use, focusing on non-smokers, by synthesising evidence using Bayesian meta-analysis.</p>

<p><sec><st>Methods</st></sec></p>
<p>We searched databases including PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library up to 1 May 2025. We included systematic reviews assessing tobacco-smoking initiation after ENDS use among non-smokers. Quality was evaluated using the AMSTAR-2 (A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews – version 2). A Bayesian hierarchical meta-analysis was conducted to estimate pooled ORs with 95% credibility intervals (CrIs), using non-informative priors to model heterogeneity and uncertainty. This study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023464207).</p>
<p><sec><st>Results</st></sec></p>
<p>From 5055 records, 13 systematic reviews were included. Of them, five were rated as ‘high quality’, one as ‘moderate’, four as ‘low’ and ‘three’ as critically low, as per AMSTAR-2 quality assessment. The meta-analysis revealed a pooled median OR of 3.1 (95% CrI 2.56 to 3.72) for smoking initiation among non-smoking ENDS users, with moderate heterogeneity ( mean: 1.23). Among adolescents, the OR was 2.7 (95% CrI 2.27 to 3.21), with moderate heterogeneity ( mean: 0.63). The risk of relapse in former tobacco smokers who used ENDS was doubled (RR: 2.03, 95% CI 1.39 to 2.96). Individuals who had never smoked but engaged with ENDS had more than twice the odds of developing an intention to smoke, with an OR of 2.21 (95% CI 1.86 to 2.61). The overall certainty of the evidence was rated very low due to the risk of bias in the studies and evidence of publication bias across the studies.</p>
<p><sec><st>Conclusions</st></sec></p>
<p>ENDS use is significantly associated with increased risk of tobacco smoking initiation among non-smokers, particularly adolescents, supporting the gateway hypothesis. These findings indicate the need for stringent regulatory and public health strategies to protect people from nicotine addiction.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Cultural humility, that is an interpersonal stance characterized by openness and self-reflection towards different cultural backgrounds and awareness of status and power imbalances, has become increasingly important in promoting positive and egalitarian intergroup relations. In three studies, we tested whether cultural humility could promote higher intentions of future contact with outgroup members, and the mechanisms underlying this association (i.e., intergroup anxiety, perceived threat, empathy). In (cross-sectional) Study 1 (<i>N</i> = 390), we found that participants’ self-reported cultural humility was associated with higher levels of future contact intention and that intergroup anxiety mediated such association. In Study 2 (<i>N</i> = 312) and Study 3 (<i>N</i> = 274), we experimentally induced cultural humility. In both studies participants in the cultural humility induction condition reported significantly higher intentions of future intergroup contact compared to those in the control condition, but such effect was not mediated by intergroup anxiety. In contrast, in Study 3, cultural humility decreased perceived threat, which mediated the relationship between cultural humility and future contact intentions. No mediation by empathy emerged. Overall, these findings support the growing literature emphasizing the potential of cultural humility in promoting positive intergroup relations.</p>

<p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span class="">In recent decades, the picture has become more complex. Deforestation has not ended, but it is no longer happening everywhere. Since 1990, some regions have continued to lose large areas of forest, while others have slowed this long-run trend — and even reversed it.</span></p>
<p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span class="">The map shows regional changes in forest area based on the latest data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.</span></p>
<p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span class="">Deforestation has been particularly large in South America and Africa. At the same time, the forested area has expanded in Europe, North and Central America, and large parts of Asia.</span></p>
<p class="article-block__text col-start-5 span-cols-6 col-md-start-3 span-md-cols-10 span-sm-cols-12 col-sm-start-2"><span class="">These gains show that deforestation is not inevitable. When pressure on land falls, forests can return.</span></p>

                        <p><h2>Background</h2>
<p>More than 10 years after its introduction in DSM-5, support for the ‘limited prosocial emotions’ specifier (LPE) for the diagnosis of conduct disorder (CD) remains scarce, possibly because studies failed to comprehensively assess the specifier and to include important characteristics. This study was designed to tackle both major limitations.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>In a sample of 323 criminal justice-involved male adolescents (ages 16–17 years), diagnostic interviews were used to differentiate between males who meet criteria for both CD and the DSM-5 specifier (CD + LPE) and males who only meet criteria for CD (CD Only). Individual and environmental characteristics were measured by means of questionnaires and computerized tasks.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>The CD + LPE (vs. CD Only) group exhibited higher levels of aggression, delay discounting, and boldness, was more likely to be expelled from school, and had significantly more delinquent friends. Levels of treatment engagement and empathy also were lower in the CD + LPE group. The DSM-5 LPE specifier significantly added to the prediction of various of these characteristics beyond indices of CD severity (i.e., total number of CD symptoms and childhood-onset CD) and features of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. However, no significant group differences emerged for other characteristics (e.g., emotion recognition accuracy, anxiety, sensation seeking, response inhibition, and warm parenting).</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Findings provide important and novel evidence to support the utility of the DSM-5 LPE specifier for CD. Some findings were unexpected, though, underscoring the need to replicate and extend the current results when testing the viability of this specifier.</p>
