<p><p>“This is another Tuskegee,” the official said. “We are allowing children, infants, to be exposed to Hepatitis B when we could prevent it, and then follow them for five years to see what happens. That’s not long enough to see the long-term benefits, but might be long enough to find some non-specific effects”…. All of this seems to confirm that Kennedy’s views are now becoming U.S. government and CDC policy, with eugenics-style experiments being given the green light in an attempt to legitimize anti-vaccine views. How many experiments like this will there be, and how many lives will be lost? </p>

<div style="font-family:Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#494949;text-align:justify;font-size:13px;">
<p><p>
<st>Background</st>
</p>
<p>In May 2020, England banned menthol as a characterising flavour in cigarettes. However, the sale of menthol accessories (eg, filters, flavour cards) remains permitted. This study assessed the impact of England’s menthol ban on quit attempts and quit success.</p>
<p>
<st>Methods</st>
</p>
<p>Longitudinal data came from Waves 3 (2020, preban) and 4 (2022, postban) of the England arm of the International Tobacco Control Four Country Smoking and Vaping Survey. A nationally representative sample of 839 adults who smoke, were followed up, and provided sufficient data to derive menthol smoking (defined as smoking menthol cigarette brands/varieties) were included (n=112 smoked menthol, n=727 non-menthol, cigarettes preban). Logistic regressions examined associations between smoking menthol (vs non-menthol) preban and quit attempts and quit success postban. Menthol accessory use postban was also examined.</p>
<p>
<st>Results</st>
</p>
<p>At baseline (preban), 12.8% of adults who smoked used menthol (vs non-menthol) cigarettes, compared with 6.3% postban (AOR 0.46, 95% CI=0.30–0.69, p<0.001). Quit attempts were similar between participants who smoked menthol (vs non-menthol) preban (29.5% vs 27.0%; AOR 0.72, 95% CI=0.31–1.67). Quit success was higher among participants who smoked menthol (vs non-menthol) preban, although wide CIs included the possibility of no difference (20.1% vs 14.2%; AOR 1.25, 95% CI=0.56–2.79). Among those who smoked menthol cigarettes preban, 43.4% continued smoking menthol and 32.1% reported using menthol accessories postban.</p>
<p>
<st>Conclusions</st>
</p>
<p>While quit success was higher among participants who smoked menthol, small sample sizes and wide CIs limited the ability to detect associations. Continued menthol use and widespread accessory use suggest regulatory loopholes may be undermining the ban’s effectiveness.</p>

<p><p>
<st>Introduction</st>
</p>
<p>Patients in mental health settings are at risk of falling and sustaining injury due to the unique risk factors related to their mental illness and its accompanied treatment.</p>
<p>
<st>Objective</st>
</p>
<p>To examine the literature on the fall prevention strategies used, and fall-related outcome measures reported for inpatients in mental health settings.</p>
<p>
<st>Methods</st>
</p>
<p>A literature search was conducted using Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus and sources from the Grey Literatures. Peer-reviewed research studies that examined fall prevention strategies for inpatients in mental health settings were included. The fall prevention strategies and fall-related outcome measures were extracted and grouped using a descriptive inductive approach.</p>
<p>
<st>Results</st>
</p>
<p>Eighteen included studies reported six main fall prevention strategies: (1) care coordination, (2) education, (3) risk assessment, (4) technology and equipment, (5) medication review and (6) exercise. Outcome measures reported were classified into frequency and rate of falls, frequency and rate of fall injuries and fall risk scores. As most of the included studies were quality improvement reports that provided insufficient information on the interventions and participant characteristics, the ability of practitioners to replicate the interventions was limited.</p>
<p>
<st>Conclusions</st>
</p>
<p>The multiple strategies employed for fall prevention in the mental health setting reflected the complexity and interaction between multiple risk factors among mental health patients. Although individualised fall risk assessments were commonly used to guide preventative strategies, there remains a need for consistent use of validated risk assessment tools appropriate for mental health inpatients.</p>

<p><p>The work of media scholar Alice Marwick can help explain why factchecking often fails when used in isolation. Her research suggests that misinformation is not just a content problem, but an emotional and structural one. She argues that it thrives through three mutually reinforcing pillars: the content of the message, the personal context of those sharing it, and the technological infrastructure that amplifies it.</p>

<div style="font-family:Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#494949;text-align:justify;font-size:13px;">
<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<h2>Background and Hypothesis</h2>
<p>In people with psychotic disorders, exercise is known to improve psychotic symptoms; however, the mechanisms underlying these effects are unclear. In the network approach, mental disorders are conceptualised as complex systems of interacting symptoms. In this context, exercise interventions could modify the dynamic of psychotic symptoms within the network. Using data from two independent clinical trials using exercise, the aim was to investigate the impact of exercise interventions on network connectivity, then compare the network structure pre and post intervention.</p>
<h2>Study Design</h2>
<p>Combined data from two clinical trials on exercise with a total of 106 participants with a diagnosis of psychotic disorder were included. The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was used to assess symptom severity using semi-structured interviews. Networks analyses were performed to compare before and after exercise.</p>
<h2>Study Results</h2>
<p>At baseline, the PANSS network was densely connected with several strong positive connections. Symptoms being most central were negative symptoms. After exercise, the network was less dense and less connected, and the connections were different. When the networks before and after exercise were compared, they were significantly different in terms of structure, but not global strength.</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>This study is the first to show that exercise seems to favour a disconnection between psychotic symptoms and could modify the network structure, providing a first mechanism of action which would require more investigation.</p>

<p><p>Once the world’s most populous nation, China is now among the many Asian countries struggling with anemic fertility rates. In an attempt to double the country’s rate of 1.0 children per woman, Beijing is reaching for a new tool: taxes on condoms, birth control pills and other contraceptives. As of Jan. 1, such items were subject to a 13% value-added tax. Meanwhile, services such as child care and matchmaking remain duty-free.</p>

<p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>This study aims to examine the life experiences of people who simultaneously possess disability and queer identity in Korea and to provide related policy recommendations. To confirm this, we sampled individuals who self-identify as queer and have been diagnosed with disabilities. A total of nine research participants were interviewed in the summer of 2024, and based on the in-depth interview content, thematic analysis was conducted utilizing a generic qualitative research method. The analysis results showed that regardless of which identity, the identification process was a confusing process, and the hateful social atmosphere operated as a powerful pressure, which made them constantly doubt themselves. To respond to this, research participants either resisted by revealing their existence or created safe spaces through solidarity with others. The results of this study argue for the necessity of a comprehensive anti-discrimination law that can embrace everyone as a fundamental countermeasure for the protection of minorities and the eradication of the reproduction of hate, and present the need for extensive improvement of Korean social policies based on this.</p>

<p><p>These activists both document ICE’s brutality and are often subject to it, demonstrating the casual violence that Trump’s paramilitary forces are bringing to American communities. Just this week, a woman named Patty O’Keefe described agents surrounding a car she was in, spraying chemical irritants through the vents, breaking the windows and dragging her out. She was thrown in the back of an ICE vehicle, where she said the driver taunted her: “You guys got to stop obstructing us. That’s why that lesbian bitch is dead.’” After eight hours in detention, she said, she was released without charges.</p>
