                        <p><p><sec><st>Background</st></sec></p>
<p>Theatre interventions such as psychodrama are increasingly being used to help individuals with mental health conditions. Previous findings provided mixed results on the impact of theatre interventions for reducing psychological symptoms. Given the growing use of theatre interventions, it is important to investigate their impact on specific mental health conditions. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to examine the impact of theatre interventions on mental health outcomes and suicidality.</p>
<p><sec><st>Methods</st></sec></p>
<p>The review was prospectively registered on The International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42021212666), and followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines for reporting. Embase, ProQuest Central, PsycInfo, PubMed and Scopus were searched. All English-language studies examining the impact of theatre interventions and on mental health outcomes and/or suicidality were included.</p>
<p><sec><st>Results</st></sec></p>
<p>In total, 42 papers met the inclusion criteria. Of these, 21 studies were included in meta-analyses that found significant reductions in standardised mean change using raw score standardisation symptoms of anxiety (k=10; –0.45 (95% CI –0.71 to –0.19)) depression (k=16; –0.79 (95% CI –1.07 to –0.51)) and post-traumatic stress disorder (k=6; –0.82 (95% CI –1.21 to –0.42)) among adult participants of theatre intervention studies. Results from studies excluded from meta-analyses indicated that theatre interventions helped reduce symptoms of schizophrenia and psychosis for adults and lowered the risk of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt among adolescents. Most studies had a high/serious risk or some concerns about bias.</p>
<p><sec><st>Conclusion</st></sec></p>
<p>Theatre interventions may be useful to help reduce symptoms of mental health conditions. Further high-quality research is necessary to build on the existing evidence and to assess both the short- and long-term impacts of theatre interventions on mental health outcomes.</p>

<p>Molyneux’s question (MQ) asks whether the newly sighted—previously capable of identifying objects via touch—would prove capable of identifying those same objects by vision alone. If the newly sighted can visually identify objects, then the ability to form mental representations of some important properties seemingly occurs prior to experience. However, I argue that MQ really seeks to determine whether perception is inherently multisensory rather than whether the ideas underlying perception are innate. I begin by reviewing arguments against the idea that representing objects across different modalities via a “common code” is sufficient for a “yes” response to MQ. I then argue that “innateness” enters the picture by positing that cross-modal connections, in conjunction with a common code, are necessary for a “yes” response to MQ. Finally, I discuss implications for expanding tests of MQ to include other modalities and experimental settings that assess established multisensory integration phenomena. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<p>This commentary highlights the critical role of research systems and framing in either perpetuating or challenging weight stigma. Despite growing recognition of weight stigma as a public health issue, research discourse can reinforce harmful narratives through weight-centric models, stigmatizing language, and narrow focus on weight. We call for inclusive, transdisciplinary, and co-designed research that centers lived experience and prioritizes health outcomes over weight loss. We advocate for systemic changes across research funding, ethics, publication, and dissemination practices to reduce stigma and promote equity.</p>

<p>This article provides a constructive critique of positive psychology, focusing on its second wave, which attempts to offer a more developed position than the first but still lacks a philosophical foundation anchored in an understanding of the inherent tensions between dialectical processes of authentic self-development and meaningful happiness or flourishing. Much criticism has been leveled against the so-called “tyranny of positive thinking,” and many agree that one of positive psychology’s most significant flaws is its consistent refusal to participate in any deep philosophical discussion. I argue that both the criticism of positive psychology and the approach it criticizes lack in-depth dialogue regarding human nature, freedom, and purpose in modern thought. Although the second wave tends to rely on Hegel’s dialectical worldview, I know of no reference in the positive psychology literature, even in works by its critics, to the fact that, from Hegel’s perspective, the ideal of happiness should be rejected. The lack of attention to the significance of this rejection, which profoundly influenced perceptions of individualism among nineteenth-century thinkers and significantly impacted the field of humanistic psychology in the twentieth century, points to significant failures that must be addressed if positive psychology is to preserve its relevance. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

                        <p><p>Today, the roll call of America’s social democrats has grown exponentially, not due to anything resembling socialist propaganda, but rather, to the economy’s thousand unnatural shocks— deunionization, financialization, globalization, deregulation, and steadily more regressive taxation, for starters—that have enriched our nation’s wealthiest 10 percent while plunging everyone else into either problems or crises of unaffordability, whether of homes, health care, or tuition. As I documented in my article in the Prospect’s December print issue, had that 90 percent of American workers retained the same share of the nation’s income that they had before Ronald Reagan began breaking unions and dismantling the tax and regulatory policies created by the New Deal, they would have earned $79 trillion more than they did in the years since Reagan was elected president in 1980. In 2025 alone, each of the roughly 140 million American workers in the bottom 90 percent would have earned an additional $28,000. That upward redistribution of income, wealth, and political power amounts to a systemic crisis for which rank-and-file Democrats now favor systemic solutions, whether they call them socialist or social democratic or not.</p>

<p>Social workers are assigned a variety of roles in resolving adversity in diverse contexts but are committed to serving the most vulnerable and promoting social well-being. Public health social work offers an overarching framework that touches many different locations and fields in which social workers operate. This review was conducted to explore and synthesize the literature of Public Health Social Work (PHSW) roles and is derived from a broader scoping study aiming to identify and describe public health social work interventions. Electronic databases were searched to identify eligible studies with varying methods published between January 2010 and December 2023. Twelve studies were included in the review. Guided by ecological systems theory, the roles were organized into the micro level, meso level, or macro level. Findings demonstrate that the roles are mainly performed at the micro and meso levels, in which tertiary prevention distinguishes itself as the predominant domain of effort. All the included studies originated from somatic health contexts. The minimal variation of studied contexts provides an inaccurate picture of PHSW’s achievement in diverse arenas and levels. This underscores the need for research representing the variety of contexts, the diversity of preventive social work, and at various levels.</p>
