                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<h2>Background</h2>
<p>Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has the potential to create a number of challenges and problems for parents due to having lifelong problem behaviors.</p>
<h2>Purpose</h2>
<p>The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences, difficulties, and coping mechanisms of parents with children with ASD through a multidisciplinary team approach.</p>
<h2>Methodology</h2>
<p>This study employed a descriptive qualitative research methodology. Data were collected through semi-structured, face-to-face individual interviews with 12 parents, guided by a structured interview protocol. Data management and analysis were conducted using the MAXQDA program. A thematic approach was used in data analysis.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>Participants reported experiencing both challenges and positive emotions related to raising a child diagnosed with ASD, and described a variety of coping strategies. Thematic analysis of the interview data revealed five key themes centered on parental perspectives: (1) parenting a child with ASD, (2) families’ reactions to the diagnosis, (3) psychological and social difficulties, (4) future-related concerns, and (5) perceived support needs.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>Parents of children have ASD have to cope with many problems throughout their lives. Resources are needed to support parents bio-psycho-socially. Enhancing the provision of standardized education and support to parents can be achieved by improving existing health and social policies, establishing formal support networks, and facilitating access to childcare services.</p>

<div class="boxTitle">Abstract</div>
<p>How we ask questions in surveys significantly impacts the answers. While previous research has examined differences between open-ended and closed-ended survey responses, our understanding remains fragmented, especially considering the growing interest in open-ended questions spurred by advances in automated text analysis. We explore how computational text analysis methods––particularly large language models––can efficiently analyze open-ended responses with promising sentiment and actor identification results, though topic classification remains more challenging. Then, we systematically compare open-ended and closed-ended responses on trust in the Austrian coalition government to assess how different formats shape the expression of political trust. We find significant discrepancies between the trust levels indicated in closed-ended questions and the trust described in open-ended responses, with paired <span>t</span>-tests also revealing statistically significant differences. These findings highlight that question format affects how respondents express their views, raising important considerations about the usefulness and validity of trust measures. They highlight the unique value of open-ended questions in capturing nuanced perspectives often missed by closed-ended formats. This has broader implications for survey design: including open-ended questions could enrich data quality and provide deeper insights into public opinion.</p>

<div class="sec"><span class="bold">Background</span>
<p>Gender dysphoria is linked to various psychosocial challenges in adolescence, underscoring the need to identify and support youth experiencing gender-related distress. Although gender identity exists on a spectrum beyond the binary, no validated tool currently exists in Turkey that uses inclusive, gender-neutral language to assess it in adolescents.</p>
</div>
<div class="sec"><span class="bold">Aims</span>
<p>This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish adaptation of the Utrecht Gender Dysphoria Scale–Gender Spectrum (UGDS-GS) among clinical- and community-based adolescents.</p>
</div>
<div class="sec"><span class="bold">Method</span>
<p>A total of 240 participants aged 12–23 years were included. The validity of UGDS-GS was assessed through content validity and confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was measured using Cronbachʼs alpha and test–retest intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). A sociodemographic data form, UGDS, UGDS-GS, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and Youth Self-Report (YSR) were utilised.</p>
</div>
<div class="sec"><span class="bold">Results</span>
<p>Findings demonstrated strong content validity, with a content validity Index of 0.69, and robust construct validity, indicated by a comparative fit index of 0.993 and a root-mean-square error of approximation of 0.071 following the exclusion of three items. UGDS-GS effectively differentiated scores across demographic groups, showing significant variances based on assigned gender and age. The scale also exhibited excellent criterion validity, evidenced by an area under the curve of 0.947 in receiver operating characteristic analysis, with high sensitivity (80%) and specificity (95.9%) at an optimal cut-off value of 42.50. With a Cronbachʼs alpha of 0.935, UGDS-GS demonstrated strong internal consistency and substantial test–receiver operating characteristic retest reliability (ICC 0.884), alongside notable but weak correlations with several RSES subscales and low to moderate correlations with YSR scores.</p>
</div>
<div class="sec"><span class="bold">Conclusions</span>
<p>These results affirm that tUGDS-GS is valuable and reliable in assessing gender dysphoria in Turkish adolescents. Further research is warranted to improve applicability in diverse contexts and populations.</p>

<p>Across two studies with adolescent samples, we investigated whether expressing abdication could be classified as a form of prosocial behavior. Specifically, Study 1 investigated the link between expressing abdication and the initiator’s prosociality. The results demonstrated a positive correlation between the frequency of abdication and well-established indicators of prosociality, such as social mindfulness, agreeableness, empathic concern, and social value orientation. Study 2 investigated whether expressing abdication provides positive consequences—regarding agency and positive affect—for the receivers. The results revealed that participants experienced a significantly stronger sense of agency and positive affect after receiving high-frequency abdication compared to low-frequency abdication. Our findings provide support for the idea that expressing abdication can be classified as a prosocial behavior. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<h2>Objectives</h2>
<p>This study used a network approach to examine gender differences in adolescents regarding unresolved attachment styles, COVID-19 PTSD symptoms, comorbid psychiatric symptoms, and contamination fear. The rationale for the study stems from the suggestion that parents‘ relationships with adolescents (i.e., attachment) can influence how adolescents cope with distress during COVID-19. Since attachment is linked to gender differences, these differences should also be considered. Furthermore, while much has been documented on secure or insecure attachment, little is known about whether the impact of unresolved attachment can influence psychological distress in adolescents.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>Adolescents (<i>n</i> = 1715; 803 females, 912 males) from five Hong Kong secondary schools completed measures assessing unresolved attachment, contamination-related fears, PTSD symptoms, and general psychological disorders.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>No significant gender differences were observed in network density or global strength. However, network structure analysis revealed weaker connections among males compared to females. For males, all unresolved attachment aspects were linked to COVID-19 PTSD and comorbid psychiatric symptoms, while for females, only perceived failed protection correlated with depression. Both genders showed associations between PTSD, comorbid symptoms, and contamination fear.</p>
<h2>Conclusions</h2>
<p>While trauma and psychological reactions were shared, gender differences emerged in how unresolved attachment influenced distress. Males exhibited broader attachment-related distress links, whereas females showed more specific associations. These findings enhance understanding of adolescent psychotherapy needs during crises.</p>

<p>Objective: Many veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) report disruptions in cognition; however, the neurophysiological underpinnings of these cognitive difficulties are not well understood. It is also unknown whether PTSD symptomatology or past mTBIs uniquely impact functions important to adaptation such as cognitive control. Method: We examined event-related potentials elicited by a flanker task to evaluate brain responses during conflict monitoring in a sample of 192 U.S. military veterans with combat-zone experience and exposure to explosive blasts. Clinical assessments characterized diagnoses as well as the severity of PTSD symptoms and mTBI so that we could parse overlapping syndromes and directly contrast effects of the two conditions. Results: Across groups, participants performed worse on conflict trials (Incongruent distractors), particularly when preceded by a no-conflict (Congruent distractors) trial. We found that greater dysphoric PTSD symptomatology was related to a reduced early perceptual response (P1), while greater avoidance PTSD symptomatology predicted a larger early visual attention response (N1). Although late cognitive processes (N2, P3) were sensitive to cognitive control demands of the flanker task, posttraumatic symptomatology and mTBI severity were unrelated to them. Conclusions: Results provide evidence that the Avoidance and Dysphoria domains of PTSD symptomatology may differentially relate to early neural functions of perception and visual attention rather than later cognitive responses. Rehabilitation and treatment of individuals with PTSD and mTBI may be most productive when focused on perceptual and attentional processing, which could improve cognitive control. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<p>Objective: Youth from socioeconomically disadvantaged families are disproportionately at risk for developing cardiometabolic diseases. Underlying mechanisms, however, remain unclear. Therefore, we examined whether socioeconomic disadvantage was associated with structural variations in regions that underlie emotion processing and executive control, and whether those variations were in turn associated with cardiometabolic risk during adolescence. Primary areas of interest included the dorsolateral prefrontal (dlPFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), and secondary areas included the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus in sensitivity analyses. Method: Participants were 277 racially and ethnically diverse adolescents (<em>M</em><sub>age</sub> = 13.92, 63% female, 73% youth of color) assessed in eighth grade (Time 1) and again 2 years later (Time 2). Caregivers’ educational attainment and household income were used to index family socioeconomic status. Cardiometabolic risk was based on a composite score of signs of metabolic syndrome (i.e., waist circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose), and structural brain imaging data characterized brain volumes. Results: Lower parent education was associated with smaller dlPFC volume, lateral OFC volume, and cardiometabolic risk at Time 1. Additionally, lower parent education and smaller dlPFC volume predicted greater cardiometabolic risk 2 years later at Time 2. Path analyses indicated that smaller dlPFC volume accounted for the association between parent education and cardiometabolic risk cross-sectionally and longitudinally 2 years later, but not for prospective changes in cardiometabolic risk. Conclusion: Findings suggest that structural variation in the dlPFC may be a pathway connecting parent education to later cardiometabolic health problems. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<p>While knowledge about the consequences of affective polarization is robust, less is known about how to reverse this process, and the current paper aims to provide such an evidence-based explanation. We hypothesized that referring to the positive aspects of the common national identity may reduce affective polarization and increase political tolerance. We have conducted one cross-sectional (<em>N</em> = 799) and one experimental (<em>N</em> = 827) studies. The results revealed that only authentic, but not narcissistic, national identity was related to desirable outcomes (i.e., lower affective polarization and higher political tolerance). Furthermore, experimentally induced authentic national identity increased political tolerance and decreased affective polarization. We provide a framework on how to address affective polarization and political tolerance between political adversaries. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>
