                        <p><p><imgsrc border="0" align="left" alt="image">Substantial knowledge about asthma has accumulated in past decades from biomedical and psychobiological research. This white paper reports on synergistic perspectives for these fields discussed at the first Annual Disease-A-Year Symposium of the American Psychosomatic Society. Progress has been made in identifying mechanical, cellular and molecular mechanisms of asthma and influences of psychosocial factors on development, pathophysiology, and management have been demonstrated. However, much remains to be learned about mechanisms of asthma development, in particular the role of genes and the microbiome, and their interaction with psychosocial factors. Additional psychobiological analysis of immunobiological pathways and pathophysiological features is also needed, as well as integration with asthma phenotypes. Although traditionally viewed as a peripheral disease of the airways, its effect on the central nervous system and cognition has begun to garner attention due to neuroscientific and technological advances. Brain-body interaction is also the focus of airway interoception research, with practical consequences for the management of overperception and underperception of airway obstruction. An integrative perspective on asthma recognizes societal factors that worsen and consolidate disparities in asthma outcomes and explores mechanisms of building resilience in patients from disadvantaged communities. Biomedical treatment with novel monoclonal antibodies promises a personalized medicine approach, while improvements to asthma management trainings have increased disease control and quality of life. Psychobiological and mind-body interventions, such as exercise, breathing training, cognitive behavioral therapy, or meditation techniques, require further exploration in large-scale multicenter trials. Close interdisciplinary collaboration will bring the field closer to the ideal of a holistic biopsychosocial treatment of asthma.</imgsrc></p>

                        <p><p>Digital mental health interventions for inpatient psychiatry show promise in improving outcomes. We provide a narrative literature review of studies that examined technology use and outcomes in patients admitted to inpatient psychiatric settings. Overall, the studies demonstrated that technology—smartphones, wearables, tablets, apps—are feasible for use by and acceptable to patients who are receiving mental health care in inpatient psychiatric settings. Given its acceptability, technology offers another strategy and tool for implementing evidence-based practices (eg, psychotherapies) as well as for translating science (eg, findings regarding neuroscience and psychophysiology) into direct practice in inpatient psychiatric settings, ultimately improving outcomes.</p>

<p>This study examines how digital storytelling (DST) facilitates multimodal composition, enabling students with dyslexia to construct meaning through diverse modes. Framed within the cultural dimension of Green’s 3D model and applying a socio-semiotic approach, the study explores how students integrate their perspectives and cultural backgrounds into their narratives. A mixed-methods approach with a single-subject design was employed, incorporating semi-structured interviews, socio-semiotic analysis of multimodal texts and descriptive statistics. Findings indicate that DST provides alternative pathways for self-expression, assisting students to mitigate writing challenges.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>For the SIPP-118, a widely used instrument for measuring the severity of personality disorders in 16 facets and five domains, T-scores, and percentile rank scores were established. Various approaches based on classical test theory and item response theory (IRT) for establishing T-scores were compared, which are assumed to achieve in-creasing levels of accuracy. Three approaches were evaluated: (1) a simple linear conversion of raw scores to T-scores, (2) a normalizing conversion (Rankit), and (3) an approach based on IRT. We compared T-scores resulting from these approaches with IRT-based factor scores. The findings show that the linear approach produced distorted T-scores for many facets of the SIPP-118, especially in the lower, more pathological range of scores. The Rankit and IRT-based approaches yielded in practice almost identical T-scores and both corresponded quite well with factor scores that were actually based on an IRT model for these facets or domain scores. Implications for the practice of establishing T-scores are discussed. IRT provided the most accurate trait estimates, but it requires a complex calculation that takes into account item parameters and the individual’s response pattern. Regression-based IRT-score approximations and Rankit-based T-scores yielded adequate estimates as well.</p>

                        <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>This research draws on the “substitutes for leadership” theory to examine if professionalism as an individual variable moderates the effect of authentic leadership on followers’ job satisfaction and innovative behavior in social service organizations. Data from 667 social workers working in multiple organizations in three large cities in China—Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai were used to test the research question. The results show that professionalism substitutes the influence of authentic leadership on follower job satisfaction, while enhances its effects on follower innovative behavior. These findings suggest that professionalism protects social work organizations from lower levels of employee job satisfaction if authentic leadership behaviors are not embedded within the organization. In addition, professionalism works together with authentic leadership in a complementary manner to promote follower innovative behaviors. This research contributes to the literature of authentic leadership and the “substitutes for leadership” theory by enhancing our understanding of the impact of professionalism.</p>

<p>Existing research has established that relative performance information significantly influences citizen satisfaction; however, the durability and consistency of this effect remain ambiguous. This study examines the conditions under which relative performance information, including historical and social performance information, affects citizen satisfaction. A survey experiment was conducted using a sample of Chinese citizens (<i>N</i> = 824), focusing on two public service scenarios: air pollution and traffic congestion. Findings indicate that both historical and social performance information exert substantial influence on citizen satisfaction, but this influence is fragile and inconsistent. The effect of relative performance information on citizen satisfaction is contingent on the degree of public trust in government. Consequently, efforts by public managers to enhance citizen satisfaction solely by modifying the presentation of performance information may yield only shortterm or negligible results. Emphasis should instead be placed on fostering public trust in government to sustain the influence of relative performance information on citizen satisfaction. Additionally, the study addresses evaluation bias in citizens’ satisfaction perceptions, offering a novel perspective for improving the scientific selection and measurement of satisfaction indicators.</p>

<p>Objective: Substance use (SU) is common among adolescents and young adults, including those experiencing early psychosis. Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC), a community-based multidisciplinary team-based service model, is increasingly used to support people experiencing first-episode psychosis. In addition to prescribers, clinicians, and vocational specialists, CSC includes peer support specialists who use their own living/lived experience with mental health and treatment to engage and support young people with their recovery goals. Peer support is also foundational in SU recovery. However, little is known about how peer support specialists navigate client SU in CSC. The purpose of this article is to detail CSC peer support SU practice. Method: Informed by community-based participatory research methods, a PhD-level qualitative researcher and a former peer support specialist conducted virtual interviews with 20 CSC peer support specialists. A multidisciplinary team including researchers with lived mental health experiences thematically coded interview transcripts. Results: A spectrum of CSC peer support specialist SU responses emerged: (a) leverages lived SU experiences; (b) does not explore SU with clients; (c) shares client SU information with the CSC team; (d) educates, mentors, and advocates; (e) shares SU consequences and/or challenges substance use; (f) nonjudgmental, nondirective SU exploration; and (g) promotes harm reduction. Conclusions and Implications for Practice: CSC peer specialist SU practice is influenced by several contextual tensions that must be better understood and addressed in future research to improve peer SU practice. Study findings speak to practice nuances that are helpful for CSC peer support training and supervision. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)</p>
