Corporate activism—companies taking public stances on contested sociopolitical issues—has become increasingly prevalent in American life. Against such activism, this essay raises two normative complaints. First, corporate activism undermines democracy by violating political equality and distorting public deliberation. Second, corporate activism adds to the undesirable overpoliticization of everyday life. Corporations, the essay concludes, should generally avoid activism.

Psychological Assessment, Vol 37(9), Sep 2025, 428-441; doi:10.1037/pas0001399

The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) is one of the most widely utilized eating disorder (ED) assessments. However, its measurement structure remains obscured by mixed findings, which may be due to studies primarily featuring community samples with limited clinical ED symptom relevance and potential measurement noninvariance across ED types. The present study aimed to employ both factor analytic and item response theory analyses in a clinical sample of individuals (n = 2,032) seeking ED treatment at a higher level of care facility to discern the EDE-Q’s structure and invariance across sociodemographic and clinical characteristics including age, race, gender, ED type, and treatment setting. Study aims also included generation of a reduced-item EDE-Q that reflected its truer measurement structure and scores with greater interpretability. Factor analytic and item response theory models uniformly indicated the EDE-Q is unidimensional with items reflecting overall ED symptom severity. Removing eight items based on item residual covariance patterns and ED theory based on expert consensus yielded a 13-item EDE-Q that had improved unidimensional fit and retained majority of the information conveyed by the original scale. The 13-item EDE-Q was also invariant across age, race, gender, level of care, and ED type. The 13-item EDE-Q is recommended as an alternative to the original and previously proposed models, as it has a more reliable total score, has better goodness of fit, and is invariant across sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Nonetheless, more work is required to develop scales that capture specific cognitive, behavioral, and affective components of disordered eating.

The exposé of vile police discrimination at Charing Cross police station comes just three years after the last exposé at the same station (Met plunged into crisis amid fresh claims of misogyny and racism, 1 October). This experience confirms that unless there is full accountability for police discrimination, the behaviour will simply carry on. The failure to have accountability is part of the institutional discrimination highlighted in the Casey review.

Comments on the article, “Gender Differences in Intimate Partner Violence: Risk Factors and Associations With Suicide” by Joksimovic et al. (see record <relateduid>2023-66172-001</relateduid>). The current author shares that their research in Taiwan echoes the significant public health issue that intimate partner violence (IPV) represents, as highlighted by Joksimovic et al. They found a similarly distressing link between IPV and suicidality among Taiwanese populations. The work by Joksimovic and colleagues not only contributes to the growing body of literature on IPV but also highlights the urgent need for comprehensive strategies that address both the immediate and long-term consequences of IPV on mental health. As professionals dedicated to the well-being of our communities, we must continue to advocate for policies and programs that support IPV victims and address the root causes of this pervasive issue.

Psychological Services, Vol 22(3), Aug 2025, 403-408; doi:10.1037/ser0000979

Health care faces a persistent research-to-practice gap, with evidence-based innovations taking 17–20 years to reach routine clinical practice and less than 50% being successfully implemented. This introduction to the special section on implementation science presents 27 studies across two editions that demonstrate how systematic implementation science approaches can transform health care delivery. The first edition focuses on mental health services, examining evidence-based psychotherapy implementation, suicide prevention programs, and health equity initiatives across diverse populations including Veterans, incarcerated individuals, and marginalized communities. The second edition explores implementation frameworks, screening and assessment innovations, and approaches for vulnerable populations in complex health care settings. Key findings reveal that contextual adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and organizational support are critical for successful implementation. These articles provide empirical evidence that implementation science can significantly reduce the research-to-practice gap while improving intervention fidelity and sustainability, offering important insights for researchers, clinicians, administrators, and policymakers committed to evidence-based health care delivery.
Chronic insomnia is one of the most common health problems among veterans and can significantly impact health, function, and quality of life. Brief behavioral treatment for insomnia (BBTI), an adaptation of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), was developed to help increase access to care outside of specialty settings. However, training providers alone is rarely sufficient, and implementation strategies are needed for successful uptake, adoption, and sustainable delivery of care. The current analysis compares the impact of providing BBTI training alone (BBTI) versus training plus implementation strategies (BBTI + IS) on veteran engagement in BBTI (i.e., reach) in Primary Care Mental Health Integration clinics. Providers from four Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers completed BBTI training and then were given access to and support for implementation strategies. Core strategies implemented across all sites included developing an implementation blueprint, organizing implementation and educational meetings, developing and distributing educational materials, developing tools for quality monitoring, and facilitation. Veteran engagement in BBTI, CBT-I, insomnia diagnoses, and prescription sleep medication was measured using retrospective data from the VA Corporate Data Warehouse. Analyses were conducted using generalized linear models. Overall, sites significantly increased veteran engagement in BBTI (reach) from training alone and achieved further engagement with implementation strategies. At the site level, there was variability by phase, with three sites increasing BBTI only with training and one site increasing BBTI with training plus implementation support. These results are promising—increasing access to evidence-based behavioral insomnia care can be accomplished via BBTI training and easily implementable strategies.

In summary, we find that the current contraction and further stratification of higher education across the world evolves in tandem with the inexorable proliferation of AI tools in universities. Under the pretence of technological saviourism, the mobilisation of AI as compensation for the collateral damage of systemic job and funding cuts occurs not as a tonic for mass higher education or defibrillation for research.

Instead, it confirms the exploitation (and what will surely be the exhaustion) of higher education by techno-oligarchs and its volte-face to a playground of social elites. In the long view, the contribution of AI may be far less to the recovery than to escalated jeopardy of higher education as a sector struggling to defend its value as a public good.
