<div class="boxTitle">Background and Hypothesis</div>
<p>Little is understood about whether the high reported prevalence of dementia in people with psychosis reflects impairment present at psychosis onset. We hypothesized that relying on longitudinal data would help to distinguish stable deficits associated with psychotic disorders from subsequent decline.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Study Design</div>
<p>We prospectively assessed the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) in individuals with first-admission psychosis who have been followed for 25 years (109 with schizophrenia; 135 with other psychoses) alongside 238 demographically matched never-psychotic adults. We scored the CDR sum of boxes using data collected only once at the 25-year follow-up assessment and as a change from baseline, 25 years prior. Impairment was categorized as not observed (NI: CDR < 2.4), mild–moderate (MI: 2.4 ≤ CDR < 4.8), or severe (SI; CDR ≥ 4.8). Prevalence of MI/SI by clinical group was assessed. Multivariable-adjusted risk ratios (aRR) were estimated using multinomial logistic regression.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Study Results</div>
<p>MI/SI was common when assessed cross-sectionally, but prevalence decreased by 44.4–65.9% when longitudinal scoring was applied. Using longitudinal data, 11.6%/18.2% of participants with schizophrenia and 9.1%/3.8% of those with other psychosis had MI/SI respectively. Participants with schizophrenia were at an increased risk of MI (aRR = 4.98, 95% CI, 1.85–13.46, <span>P</span> = .002) and SI (aRR = 25.98 [3.50–192.75] <span>P</span> = .001) relative to never-psychotic adults. Secondarily, homozygotic apolipoprotein-ε4 carriers (2.6% of genotyped participants) with schizophrenia were at higher risk for SI at midlife (SRR = 2.57 [1.04–6.33] <span>P</span> = .04).</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Conclusions</div>
<p>Future work should include observed decline in cognition and functioning to examine cognitive impairment in psychosis. Changes in CDR score may be important when managing treatment.</p>

<div class="boxTitle">Abstract</div>
<p>Observed international investment positions and cross-country heterogeneity in rates of return to capital are hard to reconcile with frictionless capital markets. In this paper, we develop a theory of international capital allocation: a multi-country dynamic spatial general equilibrium model in which the entire network of cross-border investment is endogenously determined. Our model features cross-country heterogeneity in fundamental risk, a demand system for international assets, and frictions that cause segmentation in international capital markets. We measure frictions affecting international investment and apply our model to data from nearly 100 countries, using a new dataset of international capital taxes and cultural, linguistic, and geographic distances between countries (<span>geopoliticaldistance.org</span>). Our model performs well in reproducing the composition of international portfolios, the cross-section of home bias and rates of return to capital, and other key features of international capital markets. Finally, we carry out counterfactual exercises: we show that barriers to international investment reduce world output by 7% and raise the cross-country dispersion of capital per employee, contributing in a meaningful way to global inequality.</p>

<p>Objective: To inform policies and practices that reflect the values and expectations of the communities that judges serve, we fielded a national survey of public perceptions regarding judicial roles and factors that could be considered in decision making. Hypotheses: We had four questions: (1) What is public opinion on the importance of various judicial roles and considerations? (2) Can distinct groups of respondents be identified on the basis of their views? (3) Do the groups differ in terms of their sociodemographic characteristics and beliefs? (4) If so, can they be distinguished by their characteristics and beliefs? Method: We surveyed 4,861 jury-eligible adults through Qualtrics Online Panels. About half identified as men, and about two thirds as White; the mean age was 45 years. Respondents rated the importance of judicial responsibilities and considerations using 10 items adapted from a survey of trial court judges. We employed latent profile analysis to identify subgroups on the basis of their ratings and conducted univariate and multivariable analyses to examine differences across sociodemographic characteristics. Results: A four-group model was the best-fitting and most interpretable solution. The largest profile (47.4%) demonstrated the highest ratings, suggesting that they valued due process, legal standards, expert knowledge, public safety, helping the accused, and community input. The second largest profile (39.5%) also valued legal standards, expert knowledge, and public safety but not public interests and community input. The next group (7.8%) generally rated all items as neither important nor unimportant, suggesting an ambivalence, lack of opinion, or limited interest in the issues. The smallest group (5.4%) rated all items as unimportant. Conclusions: Findings highlight areas of consensus and divergence and reveal distinct opinion profiles that can inform policy and practice. They also support the use of sophisticated measurement and analytic approaches that go beyond descriptive examinations of a single item or index to assess public opinion. <p>The aims of this integrative review were to (a) synthesize measures of postpartum depression (PPD) prevalence in U.S. rural settings, (b) evaluate PPD screening methods used in U.S. rural settings, (c) examine barriers to mental health care for rural women with PPD, and (d) examine interventions for PPD utilized in rural settings. Peer-reviewed primary studies on PPD in rural U.S. settings were eligible for inclusion. Systematic assessment yielded 28 eligible studies which underwent data evaluation, quality appraisal, data analysis, and data synthesis. Findings revealed an elevated PPD prevalence among rural women compared to the U.S. average. No existing PPD screening tools were validated for clinical use in rural U.S. settings. Barriers to accessing mental health care included distrust in the health care system, social stigma, transportation challenges, and limited internet/cell service. Interventions addressing PPD in rural settings were mainly associated with feasibility research. Rural American women face high risk of PPD and experience significant barriers in accessing mental health care. <div class="boxTitle">Introduction</div>
<p>Historically, cannabis blunts were made using tobacco products like cigars, but tobacco-free blunt wraps (TFBWs) made from sources like hemp and palm leaves are gaining popularity. While marketed for cannabis, it is unknown what substances adolescents put in TFBWs. Here, we focused on using tobacco in TFBWs.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Methods</div>
<p>From April–May 2024, 4760 Connecticut high school students completed school-wide, anonymous, online surveys. The analytic sample comprised 489 adolescents (44.6% male, 28.2% non-Hispanic White, mean age 16.20 [1.27] years) with lifetime cannabis blunt use who answered questions about TFBW awareness and use, including with tobacco. We examined demographic-, tobacco-, and cannabis-related associations with using tobacco in TFBWs.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Results</div>
<p>Of students reporting lifetime cannabis blunt use, 49.7% were aware of TFBWs and 24.7% reported use. Among adolescents using TFBWs, 12.4% reported putting tobacco in TFBWs and 8.7% reported usually doing so. In bivariate analyses, putting tobacco in TFBWs was associated with using blunts at an earlier age; using other tobacco products; using a greater total number of tobacco products in one’s lifetime; and greater dependence on e-cigarettes, cigarettes, and cannabis (<span>p-</span>values <0.05).</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Conclusions</div>
<p>Few students who use cannabis blunts reported putting tobacco in TFBWs. Yet, using tobacco in TFBWs was associated with negative outcomes like nicotine and cannabis dependence, requiring future investigation. Unlike cigarette rolling papers and tobacco blunt wraps, TFBWs are not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration as tobacco products. However, surveillance in nationally-representative samples may support the need for regulatory action if tobacco use in TFBWs continues.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Implications</div>
<p>Although some brands of tobacco-free blunt wraps (TFBWs) specifically note that their products are not intended for tobacco use, blunts are user-rolled. Results demonstrate that among adolescents who use cannabis blunts and endorse TFBW use, 12.4% have added tobacco to a TFBW and 8.7% regularly do so. If findings are replicated in future national survey studies of adolescents and adults, this would support the United States Food and Drug Administration in regulating TFBWs as tobacco products.</p>

<div class="boxTitle">Abstract</div>
<p>The National Institute of Health (NIH) Stage Model provides a systematic framework for advancing behavioral intervention science. It uniquely bridges basic research with the development and dissemination of interventions that are scientifically rigorous and scalable. This manuscript examines the evolution and key features of the NIH Stage Model, its incorporation of iterative and mechanism-focused methodologies, and its impact on behavioral science, particularly in aging research. We provide examples of how the model’s flexibility, iterative design, focus on mechanisms of behavior change, and emphasis on scalability are significantly influencing intervention development in aging. We describe how the National Institute of Aging (NIA) Edward R. Roybal Centers for Translational Research in the Behavioral and Social Sciences of Aging have become engines of intervention development and testing according to the NIH Stage Model by funding behavioral trials across the NIH Stage Model while simultaneously supporting the development of training opportunities and scientific networks immersed in this approach. We conclude with a discussion of strategies, fully aligned and compatible with the NIH Stage Model, to further achieve the model’s ultimate goal: the swift translation of interventions, including aging interventions, into clinical, community, home, or other “real-world” settings to benefit those that need them.</p>

<p>Acceptance research in the organizational sciences has shown that practicing acceptance can reduce anxiety and enhance performance at work. Our research aims to deepen understanding of these effects by considering how and when acceptance influences work anxiety and performance. We integrate cognitive resource allocation theory with workplace mindfulness and acceptance research to develop a model in which acceptance lessens work anxiety and improves work performance via cognitive resource crafting. Further extending the model, we investigate chronic time pressure as a moderator dampening the positive effect of acceptance on cognitive resource crafting. Across four studies (Study 1: experiment; Study 2: 1-day between-person study; Study 3: 5-day experience-sampling study; Study 4: 10-day experimental experience-sampling study), we found support for our hypothesized model. We discuss theoretical and practical implications regarding how and when to effectively utilize acceptance to promote workplace well-being and performance. <p><p>A report commissioned by ministers said the Adult Disability Payment was a “great foundation” which was “significantly more compassionate” than benefits on offer in the rest of the UK. However, it said too many disabled people still found the system difficult to navigate, and said eligibility criteria should be reviewed. As it stands, the number of people claiming the payment is forecast to grow from 379,000 in 2024-25 to 703,000 in 2030-31.</p>

<p><p><span class="paragraphSection">A<span>s</span> <span>we write these lines in April 2025, the European Union is entering a pivotal phase of strategic reorientation. Two months from now—when this editorial is published—it is possible that some of the uncertainty we currently face will have been resolved. Perhaps the long-awaited grants for civil society will have been released, easing the pressure on NGOs across Europe. But in this present moment, as defence spending accelerates and new frameworks like ReArm Europe take shape, we must reflect on the implications of sidelining public health and civil society in the name of security.</span></span></p>

<p>School-based interventions designed to meet the needs of students exposed to trauma, including Bounce Back (BB; grades K–5) and Support for Students Exposed to Trauma (SSET; grades 6–12), are promising but underresearched. This study used a single-group, pretest–posttest design to examine intervention effects of BB and SSET on primary and secondary school students’ trauma symptoms, positive and negative affect, life satisfaction, and disciplinary incidents in a school system in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Trained school counselors delivered the interventions to cohorts of eligible students from a single school system enrolled in either BB (<span>N</span> = 102) or SSET (<span>N</span> = 120) over three academic years. From pre- to posttreatment, students’ trauma symptoms were significantly reduced and their positive affect significantly improved following both BB and SSET. There were also significant improvements in students’ negative affect and life satisfaction following SSET. SSET had no significant effect on discipline referral rates in the year after treatment. Study findings underscore BB and SSET as valuable school-based approaches for addressing trauma-related symptoms in students.</p>

<p>Social surveys can be enriched with the collection of objective health measures, allowing new types of research in both health and social sciences. We experimentally tested three alternative designs for collecting survey responses and biomeasures within a longitudinal survey. In the nurse-administered design, a nurse conducts the survey and collects biomeasures in person. In the interviewer-first design, an interviewer initially attempts to carry out the survey in person, collects a subset of biomeasures, and then leaves a further biomeasure sample collection kit with the respondent. The web-first design invites respondents to complete the survey in web mode, and a biomeasure sample collection kit is sent after they do so. Nonrespondents to their initial mode are followed up with in an alternate mode. The outcomes of interest are both (i) response to the survey, and (ii) take-up and completion of the biomeasure sample collection. The impact of the experimental design is tested on both outcomes, utilizing intention-to-treat analysis (that is, by allocated design). To account for the importance of channel of communication in the consent decision for biomeasures, we also analyze observed consent outcomes by realized mode of response, other survey factors, and respondent characteristics. Findings show that the web-first design is superior in obtaining survey response, with nonsignificant differences between in-person interviewer-administered and nurse-administered designs. Conversely, the web was the least effective design for obtaining biomeasures. These findings imply that there is a design trade-off between obtaining survey responses and biomeasures, and this should be considered in future studies.</p>
