<p><h2>Abstract</h2>
<p>Psychodiagnostic labels abound in family court, whether they are used colloquially by the parties to attack each other, or formally by professionals who are trying to help. We examine the history of these diagnostic terms, including ways they are useful and ways they cause problems. After exploring how psychodiagnostic labeling systems are limited and evolving to become more dimensional, we highlight the legal rights of people with mental health problems to showhow labels can inadvertently lead to discrimination. We conclude by sharing tools to help divorce practitioners overcome the biased assumptions often wrapped up in diagnostic language.</p>

<p>Existing research provides preliminary evidence that child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is a viable social–emotional intervention for children on the autism spectrum. However, limited research exists to evaluate the pattern of change among autistic children during CCPT. The present study is the first repeated-measures design exploring the impact of CCPT, an evidence-based child mental health intervention, on autistic children’s social–emotional assets and emotional and behavioral problems across four times during intervention based on teacher reports. Participants consisted of 19 autistic children recruited from two Title-1 elementary schools in the Southwestern United States who were aged between 5 years and 8.25 years (M = 6.22, SD = 0.91), presenting with varied levels of cognitive functioning and speech and language abilities. Over 60% of participants were identified by their parents as children of color. Results indicated that participants’ increased time in CCPT predicted statistically significant improvement in social–emotional assets measured by the Social–Emotional Assets and Resilience Scales–Teacher (Merrell, 2011) total score with a large effect size. Results also indicated that participants’ increased time in CCPT predicted a statistically significant reduction in emotional and behavioral problems of irritability, social withdrawal, and hyperactivity/noncompliance, measured by the Aberrant Behavior Checklist–Second Edition (Aman & Singh, 2017), with large effect sizes. Findings of this study revealed substantive changes in social–emotional assets as early as eight CCPT sessions and reduction of emotional and behavioral concerns as early as 12 CCPT sessions. <p>Grief and loss perspectives are frequently used in clinical and nonclinical (e.g., parent-facilitated support groups) settings to support families who are navigating awareness or disclosure of a child’s diverse gender identity (i.e., as transgender or nonbinary [TNB]). Little to no research has examined the mental health consequences of TNB youth of having parents and caregivers conceptualize their child’s gender transition or journey through the lens of loss and grief. Framed by minority stress theory, this study examines associations between 319 TNB youths’ (ages 13–22) awareness of familial grief related to their TNB identity and their own mental health (i.e., depression, anxiety, and suicide thoughts and behaviors). Results indicate that TNB youth who experience familial grief or loss due to their TNB identity reported higher levels of anxious and depressive symptoms and were more likely to have attempted suicide. We discuss how clinicians and providers in community settings can better support TNB youth by reducing the use of a grief and loss lens in interventions with families. Clinicians and other providers are encouraged to help families integrate a child’s developing gender identity and expression within the family context and to interrogate the meaning of loss of cisgender privilege for the youth and their parent and family systems. <p>Summarizing specific psychopathology symptoms into higher order factors has a long tradition in mental health science. More recently, the general psychopathology factor (p factor) has gained much interest and currently reflects the highest level of the psychopathology hierarchy. The <em>p</em> factor is modeled from covariance of transdiagnostic psychopathology symptoms. Because such covariance is robust (persons who score higher on symptom X compared to others also tend to score higher on symptom Y), there have been many factor-analytic studies that claim the discovery of—and/or empirical support for—a general psychopathology factor. <p><p>These thoughts proved a starting point for Beyond Opposition – our project which, since 2020, has been looking at the lives of people who are reticent about or object to the perceived liberalising of societies’ sexual and gender laws in Great Britain, Ireland and Canada. The idea of this research is not to defend their positions. Nor is it to explore their politics around sexualities and genders, which we and many others do in research into anti-gender movements. <p><h2>ABSTRACT</h2>
<p>Educational reforms in European Higher Education have brought about substantial changes in educational policy, being necessary to address the initial training of university teachers. This study aims to analyse the training proposals for teacher induction of novice faculty in Spanish universities. The research followed an exploratory–descriptive methodology. Most Spanish universities offer ongoing teacher training for teaching and research staff, yet only about half offer specific induction training for novice faculty. This finding indicates a potential area for improvement in the initial support provided to novice faculty. The results reveal a weak structuring and systematisation of initial teacher training, notable discrepancies in training characteristics and an apparent gap in programme assessment. The induction strategy should be contextualised by matching the opportunities offered by the institution with the personal demands of the novices. Also, it should be based on a previous diagnosis and set of minimum criteria for designing induction to guarantee equal professional preparation. Practical implications on several levels are summarised in this study.</p>

<p>Clinical supervision is an essential component of health service psychology training, yet there are very few measures assessing competence in the practice of supervision. Little is known about the impact of supervision competence on trainees’ development. Data were collected from the psychology training programs of an urban academic medical center in the Midwest United States from 2015 to 2020. At the end of each training year, trainees completed the following: (a) the Psychology Trainee Evaluation of Supervision Competencies, a trainee-report measure of supervision competence with seven domains matching those of the American Psychological Association’s (2014) guidelines for supervision, and (b) the Profession-Wide Competencies Growth Survey, a brief measure asking trainees to what degree the supervisor facilitated their acquisition of each profession-wide competency of health service psychology (i.e., research, ethics, diversity, professionalism, communication, assessment, intervention, supervision, and consultation/interdisciplinary collaboration). Using 203 completed Psychology Trainee Evaluation of Supervision Competencies responses from 110 trainees, exploratory graph analysis was applied to examine the measure’s dimensional structure, revealing a single dimension of supervision competence. Cross-classified multilevel models demonstrated that supervision competence predicted greater trainee self-reported growth across all nine profession-wide competencies. Trainees’ race/ethnicity impacted their report of growth in diversity competence. The findings demonstrate the following: (a) the utility of the Psychology Trainee Evaluation of Supervision Competencies for assessing supervision competence from the trainee perspective, (b) empirical support for American Psychological Association’s (2014) seven domains of supervision competence, and (c) that competent supervision enhances trainees’ competencies, readying them for professional practice. <p>Educational research has emphasized a robust link between interest and attention across various learning activities. According to a widely recognized hypothesis, interest plays an important role in directing learners’ focus of attention to a learning activity rather than to task-unrelated activities such as mind wandering (MW). However, the currently available evidence leaves room for alternative possibilities. In particular, MW itself could influence interest, or both interest and MW could mutually influence each other during learning. We report on a study that addresses this ambiguity and examines the links between the two constructs, taking into account both situation-level and person-level differences. Participants first rated their topic interest after being given a brief preview of a text on that topic. They subsequently read the entire text, intermittently rating situational interest and reporting instances of MW. We found a significant association of situational interest at one point during reading with subsequent instances of MW, and a significant association of MW at one point during reading with subsequent situational interest, suggesting a reciprocal relation between the two constructs. In addition, differences in topic interest appeared to influence overall levels of situational interest during reading, whereas person-level differences in MW appeared to influence MW rates during reading. Finally, we also analyzed the contributions of topic interest and situational interest during reading to postreading situational interest and found a remarkable consistency between the variables. <p><p><imgsrc border="0" align="left" alt="image">ABSTRACT: </imgsrc></p>
<p>Objective: </p>
<p>Behavioral or conduct problems (BCPs) are common co-occurring conditions in children with special health care needs (CSHCNs), affecting their developmental and functional milestones. The role of family resilience in mitigating BCPs among these children and how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect this dynamic remain largely unclear. The aim of the study was to disentangle the complex interplay between family resilience, ACEs, and BCPs by examining how ACEs moderate the relationship between family resilience and BCPs.</p>
<p>Methods: </p>
<p>The study included 19,922 CSHCNs aged 3 to 17 years from the 2020-2021 National Survey of Children’s Health. Weighted analysis was conducted using the Rao-Scott χ2 test and multivariable logistic regression to account for the complex survey design.</p>
<p>Results: </p>
<p>Children from families with no and low resilience as compared with high-resilient families had 1.78 times (odds ratio [OR]: 1.78, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.31–2.43) and 1.44 times (OR: 1.44, 95% CI, 1.18–1.76) higher odds of BCPs, respectively. While the odds of BCPs decreased in nonresilient families as ACEs increased from none to 1 ACE, 2 or more ACEs versus no ACE increased the odds of BCPs in low-resilient families from 1.42 times (OR: 1.42, 95% CI, 1.03–1.94) to 1.51 times (OR: 1.51, 95% CI, 1.13–2.02).</p>
<p>Conclusion: </p>
<p>The findings suggest that family resilience is associated with a lower likelihood of BCPs in CSHCNs. ACEs have varying effects on the relationship between family resilience and BCPs across different levels of family resilience. These results highlight the importance of strengthening family resilience and addressing ACEs in interventions to reduce behavioral issues in CSHCNs.</p>

<p><p>The #MeToo movement highlights workplace sexual harassment’s pervasiveness across occupations and industries. Restaurant servers in particular report high rates of sexual harassment due to the gendered expectations and power imbalances that characterize this line of work, with servers facing harassment from co-workers, managers, and customers. Sexual harassment and unwanted sexual attention from customers are especially problematic because servers often must navigate the difficult situation of continuing to serve customers whose behavior has crossed the line. Using interview data collected from 31 predominantly white restaurant servers, we conducted a thematic analysis of the emotional labor they perform in response to sexual harassment and unwanted sexual attention from customers. Findings suggest a variety of strategies utilized by servers facing sexual harassment, including managing their outward emotional expressions, feigning laughter, avoiding the customer, and strategically managing their personal information. Servers described engaging in these responses in order to prioritize the customer experience but also sometimes to push back in subtle ways. All told, our findings highlight how the complex and varied emotional labor strategies used by servers as they navigate sexual harassment and unwanted sexual attention from customers constitute an additional layer of work restaurant servers are called upon to perform.</p>
