International Journal of Behavioral Development, Ahead of Print.
Climate change worry (CCW) is a specific worry about climate change, involving thoughts about changes that might occur in the climate system and their possible effects. Nowadays, it is growing especially among adolescents. As there is a lack of measurement tools with adequate psychometric properties to assess CCW in this age group, we investigated the psychometric properties of the Climate Change Worry Scale (CCWS) in youth. Participants were 1,846 Italian adolescents (58% males; mean age = 16.37; SD = 1.27). The expected unidimensional structure was supported by cross-validation with a multigroup confirmatory analysis, and measurement invariance of the scale across sex and age groups. Sex and age differences were analyzed. The CCWS had a high internal consistency, and good validity. Overall, this study contributes to attest that the CCWS is a suitable instrument for measuring CCW in adolescents.

Kernberg’s (1984) conceptualization of malignant narcissism describes individuals whose pathological grandiosity has been infiltrated by high levels of aggression and includes associated clinical characteristics such as paranoia, psychopathy, and sadism. While a theoretically rich construct, there has been limited empirical assessment of malignant narcissism to date, yet it may provide one way to understand the heterogeneity and treatment complexity of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). The present study developed an index for assessing malignant narcissism using trait-based, dimensional measures of pathological narcissism and psychopathy and examined the nomological network associated with malignant narcissism in a sample of 60 patients diagnosed with BPD. Results showed that our malignant narcissism index was related to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) conceptualizations of BPD and narcissistic personality disorder, but not antisocial personality disorder. Our index was also related to symptoms of paranoia and psychoticism, as well as trait anger, social potency, negative emotionality, and positive emotionality. We discuss the implications of our results for assessing malignant narcissism in those diagnosed with BPD. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)

Nonbinary people make up approximately one third of the broader trans community, yet most research on trans populations focuses on the experiences of binary trans people (i.e., trans men and trans women). Research has begun to indicate that mental health disparities may differ between binary and nonbinary trans populations and that nonbinary people may be at even greater risk for some mental health disparities compared to binary trans populations. Minority stress theory provides a framework for understanding the mental health disparities among LGBTQ + populations. However, research has yet to examine the unique minority stress experiences among nonbinary people. This qualitative study conducted by an all nonbinary team of researchers aimed to comprehensively identify the minority stress experiences of nonbinary people. Data were collected from five focus groups and six individual interviews with a diverse sample of nonbinary adults living in geographic areas across the United States (N = 29). Thematic analysis was applied with a deductive approach using the gender minority stress model (Testa et al., 2015) as a framework for identifying themes. Similar to the gender minority stress model, which focused on binary trans populations, nonbinary participants in this study reported experiencing discrimination, rejection, harassment/violence, misgendering, internalized stigma, anticipated minority stress, and concealment, but in unique ways. Newly identified minority stressors were binary normativity, interpersonal invalidation, burdening, gender dysphoria, and mental/emotional labor. Results advance minority stress theory as it applies to nonbinary populations and provide important implications for clinical interventions, policy, and future research. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
