<p><p>This prospective study examined the primary, secondary and complex conceptual models of religious/spiritual struggles with 18 indicators of whole person functioning across five domains: psychological well-being, psychological distress, social well-being, physical well-being and character. We used three waves of longitudinal data (Wave 1: August/September 2021, Wave 2: October/November 2021, Wave 3: February 2022) from Colombian university students (<i>N</i> = 2878, <i>M</i><br>
<sub>age</sub> = 20.88 ± 4.05 years). Adjusting for covariates assessed in Wave 1, our primary analysis applied the analytic templates for outcome-wide and lagged exposure-wide designs to estimate two sets of lagged linear regression models. Religious/spiritual struggles in Wave 2 were associated with a small-to-medium-sized decline in subsequent functioning on 17/18 indicators in Wave 3, and worse functioning on 16/18 indicators in Wave 2 was associated with very small-to-medium-sized increases in subsequent religious/spiritual struggles in Wave 3. The results provided evidence in favour of the complex conceptual model for 16/18 indicators of whole person functioning. Our findings extend existing evidence on the reciprocal association between religious/spiritual struggles and individual functioning to a wide range of indicators, reinforcing the need for practitioners to consider the dynamic interplay between religious/spiritual struggles and individual functioning as they work with younger populations.</p>

<p>Objective: Researchers have demonstrated a link between autism and victimization, but less research has explored rates of sexual victimization among autistic college students. Informed by lifestyle-routine activity theory, certain features of autism may enhance vulnerability to sexual victimization and may lead autistic individuals to be targeted by potential perpetrators. Method: Using data from the American College Health Association’s National College Health Assessment III, a national study of college students, the relationship between autism and rape/attempted rape, nonconsensual sexual assault, and having challenges or problems with sexual harassment was examined at the bivariate level and in three logistic regression models, accounting for potential covariates informed by lifestyle-routine activity theory. Results: Findings revealed that autism is related to an increase in the odds of experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact and sexual harassment, but it is not significantly related to rape/attempted rape. Conclusions: Autistic college students are more vulnerable to experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact and having challenges or problems with sexual harassment. Accessibility offices on college campuses could be used to screen for sexual victimization. <p><p>Transcultural Psychiatry, Ahead of Print. <br>The current study used the McGill Illness Narrative Interview (MINI) to explore patients’ (n = 6) and caregivers’ (n = 3) narratives about how they identified and sought care for psychosis. Participants were recruited from an outpatient clinic at the Hospital Psiquiátrico Dr. Rafael Serrano, a public psychiatric hospital in Puebla, Mexico. All participants consented to complete semi-structured interviews in Spanish. Thematic analyses were used to inductively identify common themes in participants’ narratives. The results indicated that during the initial symptom onset, most participants noticed the presence of hallucinations but did not seek help for this hallmark symptom. Participants described seeking care only when they or their ill relative exhibited escalating aggressive behaviors or physical symptoms that were interpreted as common medical problems. As participants became connected to specialty mental health services, they began to develop a conceptualization of psychosis as a disorder of aggression. For some participants, this conceptualization of psychosis as an illness of aggression contributed to their ambivalence about the diagnosis. These results can be understood using a cultural scripts framework, which suggests that cultural norms are influenced by collective understandings of normalcy and valorization of behaviors. Implications for community campaigns are discussed.</p>

<div class="boxTitle">Objective</div>
<p>Due to systemic inequities, Black adolescents with type 1 diabetes are more likely to have suboptimal glycemic control and high rates of diabetes distress, but tailored interventions for this population are lacking. In primary outcomes of a randomized clinical trial, a family-based eHealth intervention improved glycemic control in Black adolescents with type 1 diabetes and elevated depressive symptoms. The present study is a secondary analysis of these clinical trial data examining the moderating effect of diabetes distress on the efficacy of the intervention.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Methods</div>
<p>Using secondary data from a multicenter randomized clinical trial (Clinicaltrials.gov [NCT03168867]), caregiver–adolescent dyads were randomly assigned to either up to three sessions of an eHealth parenting intervention (<span>n</span> = 75) or a standard medical care control group (<span>n</span> = 74). Black adolescents (10 years, 0 months to 14 years, 11 months old) with type 1 diabetes and a caregiver willing to participate were eligible. Adolescents reported their diabetes distress at baseline, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) data were collected at baseline, 6-, 13-, and 18-month follow-up.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Results</div>
<p>No between-group contrasts emerged in a linear mixed-effects regression (<span>p</span>’s > .09). Within-group contrasts emerged such that adolescents assigned to the intervention who reported high diabetes distress had lower HbA1c at the 18-month follow-up relative to baseline (<span>p</span> = .004); the 18-month decrease in HbA1c was −1.03%.</p>
<div class="boxTitle">Conclusions</div>
<p>Black adolescents with type 1 diabetes and high levels of diabetes distress showed significant decreases in HbA1c following a family-based eHealth intervention, suggesting diabetes distress may be a key moderator of intervention efficacy within this population.</p>
