<p class="a-plus-plus">Understanding children’s experiences of living with domestic violence and abuse (DVA) is central to a child-centered, rights-based approach to working with children and young people. However, the tension between children’s right to be heard and their need to be protected from harm can often mean that those opportunities are experienced as tokenistic. In response to this concern about the reality of children’s participation in the context of DVA, the Empower Kids Project (EKP) was initiated by Barnardos [Ireland] in 2020. The EKP collaborates with partner agencies who collectively come together to provide children with a supported environment to give voice to their experiences of domestic violence and abuse. The children participate in this work within the safe and trusted relationship of their keyworker, through one to one or group work or through their support group in their local area service.</p>

<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Methods</h3>
<p class="a-plus-plus">Located primarily within Lundy’s (British Educ Res J 33:927–942, <span class="a-plus-plus citation-ref citationid-c-r25">2007</span>) model of participation, this brief report charts the journey of the EKP over the last four years across Lundy’s four quadrants of Voice, Space, Audience and Influence.</p>

<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Results</h3>
<p class="a-plus-plus">Beginning with just 12 children in 2020, the EKP has to date included the voices of 74 children in its work. Analysis of the children’s journey of participation illustrates poignantly how meaningful participation is possible when scaffolded space is provided to elevate the voices of young survivors of childhood DVA. Employing child friendly multi-modal methodologies resulted in a potent sense of ownership and impact, encapsulated by one child articulating that she felt she was part of a ‘movement’.</p>

<p class="a-plus-plus">The testimonies of the children and young people participating in the EKP challenge any concern that children who have experienced an adversity such as DVA may be too vulnerable to participate. Rather, the EKP participants felt part of a ‘movement’ that was influencing and creating change. Importantly, participating in the EKP has provided an otherwise marginalized and silenced group, a platform to share their experiences of living with such abuse.</p>

<p><h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3>
<p class="a-plus-plus">Despite the aging of the population in Ethiopia, little scholarly attention has highlighted the day-to-day experiences of older adults living in community settings. Without a clear understanding of older adults’ lived experiences, little or no government attention is given to older adults’ unmet needs. The purpose of this study was to understand the social and economic context of older adults living in northwest Ethiopia from the perspective of older adults themselves. A phenomenological approach was used to explore the lived experiences of ten purposively selected older adults in Gondar City in northwest Ethiopia. Narrative data from in-depth interviews were analyzed thematically revealing six challenges faced by older adults: fading social networks, widowhood as double jeopardy, a weak social protection system, intractable poverty, being victims of ageism, and inaccessible health care. Based on these findings, we recommend the establishment of a national-level office on aging to raise awareness of the multiple challenges of older people and to advocate for social welfare and health policy and services oriented to the needs of the older population. The severe poverty of older adults can be mitigated by the Ethiopian government committing to social protection as a basic human right. In addition to social protection, other economic strengthening programs such as pensions and micro-loans can help to alleviate older adults’ poverty and improve their overall health and well-being. Large-scale quantitative studies are needed to validate our conclusion that the lack of basic institutional social welfare infringes on the human rights of older adults in Ethiopia.</p>

<p><h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3>
<p class="a-plus-plus">In recent years, the quality of the environment has declined dramatically as a result of human activities, which threaten the sustainability of our ecosystem. In this context, a number of earlier studies have investigated the environmental problems through the lens of different environmental indicators such as ecological footprint and carbon dioxide emissions. However, it is possible that by taking these factors into account, the supply side of environmental quality will be neglected. This research seeks to address this deficiency by investigating the impact of green growth, energy efficiency, green technology innovation, economic growth, trade openness, and human capital on the level of load capacity factor. This indicator places equal emphasis on the supply and demand sides of the ecosystem by taking into account both ecological footprint and bio capacity. In this setting, the present study makes use of CS-ARDL model for the top 10 manufacturing countries from the years 1990 to 2019. The short- and long-run findings of the CS-ARDL model unveil that green growth, energy efficiency, green technology innovation, and human capital all positively influence the load capacity factor, suggesting that these factors help the top 10 manufacturing countries to improve their sustainability limits. In contrast, trade openness and economic expansion in underlying countries increase environmental degradation by lowering the level of LCF. These outcomes are also validated by the AMG and CCEMG approaches and the granger causality test. On the basis of the findings, important policy recommendations are presented with the aim of assisting the top 10 manufacturing economies in enhancing the quality of their environment and fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.</p>

<p><h2>Summary</h2>
<p>Individual perceptions of team trustworthiness are critical antecedents to the development of relationships within teams. Yet, clarity is needed regarding the focus of these individual perceptions and how they change, particularly at the outset of team interactions. Two distinct research streams have emerged regarding trustworthiness. One proposes a difference between perceived ability and intent, whereas the other proposes a difference between confident positive and negative expectations of others. Regardless of their structure, theory suggests that perceptions of team trustworthiness ought to develop across performance episodes as individuals identify more with their team and have more information about how they are performing. We explore these relationships across three distinct performance episodes in newly formed short-term teams. Our results support a four-factor model of trustworthiness within the context of short-term, lab-based teams. Further, perceptions regarding teammates’ abilities tended to change quickly and curvilinearly while those regarding teammates’ intents changed linearly. Positive team performance signals bolstered individual perceptions of team trustworthiness in ability and intent but not perceived team untrustworthiness. Negative team performance signals bolstered individual perceptions of team untrustworthiness in ability and intent while harming both types of individual perceptions of team trustworthiness. This study supports propositions from the model of trust over time and lays the groundwork for a comprehensive approach toward trust research within teams.</p>
