<p class="a-plus-plus">Much of the existing literature on the influence of social media use on well-being has focused on Facebook. Additionally, there exist inconsistencies in how different aspects of social media use (i.e., duration, problematic use, and emotional investment) impact well-being. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate how engagement with social media (Instagram and TikTok) was related to problematic social media use and mental well-being. Additionally, this study examined individuals’ emotional investment (value attributed to “likes” and social media followers) on each platform and how this related to problematic social media use and well-being. In this correlational study, 252 participants completed an online questionnaire including validated scales (e.g., the Rosenberg self-esteem scale) and items measuring the time spent on each platform (minutes per day) and the importance of likes, and followers. Time spent on TikTok was a significant positive predictor of problematic social media use, depression, and self-esteem, however, did not predict loneliness. Time spent on Instagram was a significant positive predictor of problematic social media use, but not any other well-being factors. These latter findings highlight the need to investigate additional factors related to how individuals are using social media, as duration is not a sufficient predictor of well-being. Problematic social media use was a significant positive predictor of depression and self-esteem, but not loneliness. Emotional investment varied in predicting problematic social media use and well-being across the two social media platforms. Present findings may alert clinical psychologists to the importance of monitoring social media use in clinical populations.</p>

<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3>
<p class="a-plus-plus">Ten years after the adoption of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), and with the recent publication of a text revision (DSM-5-TR), the limitations of this system for diagnostic classification of mental disorders remain. However, given that the alternatives that have been proposed have their own serious problems, DSM is likely to be retained for some time to come. It is generally accepted by courts as reflecting expert opinion. This paper highlights problems with the reliability and validity of DSM diagnoses, the tendency to overdiagnosis of certain categories, leading to problems with the use of these criteria in the courts, both in criminal and civil laws. The review argues that the categories in the DSM should be considered heuristics, not as disease entities equivalent to medical diagnoses supported by biomarkers and endophenotypes.</p>

<p class="a-plus-plus">Placement instability for children in foster care is high, with children experiencing nearly 4.5 placement moves per 1,000 days in care on average. While prior research has demonstrated a predictive relationship between mental health problems and placement instability, few studies have examined the associations of specific mental health diagnoses or utilization of mental health (MH) services. To this end, this study seeks to investigate associations between MH service utilization, mental health diagnosis, and placement instability (rate of placement moves) for foster children. We analyzed statewide integrated administrative data to examine MH service utilization and mental health diagnosis on placement instability among foster children. We used SAS 9.4 to conduct descriptive, bivariate, and multiple linear regression models to address the objectives of the study. The retrospective cohort was composed of 1,002 children in foster care. The multivariable linear regression reveals that receiving in-patient services, receiving out-patient services, being diagnosed with conduct disorder, being Black children, older children, and female children, being placed in intensive case management, being sexually abused, having a single household family structure at time of removal, and having a high number of intakes significantly increased the rate of placement moves. The findings of this study have significant implications for the provision of mental health services to foster children and the promotion of placement stability, highlighting the role of child welfare professionals in fostering protective factors and mitigating risk factors to promote placement stability. Implications for practice and policy improvement are discussed.</p>

<p>In the Original Investigation titled “Psychotherapies for Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Adults: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials,” published online October 18, 2023, the authors had erroneously included a secondary analysis of a primary trial already included in the network, thus counting the same cohort of patients twice. Additionally, a standard error had been misinterpreted as a standard deviation during data extraction. All analyses have been rerun, and the article was corrected to fix errors in the Abstract, Key Points, text, References, Table 2, Figures 1-3, and eAppendixes D-N in Supplement 1. The 95% CI for behavior therapy vs waiting list no longer crosses the line of no effect in the primary efficacy analysis, but overall, the corrections do not affect the clinical interpretations or conclusions. The article was corrected online.</p>
