<p>Up to 20% of individuals who die by suicide have visited an emergency department (ED) within 4 weeks of their death. Limited guidance is available regarding the modification of clinical outcomes following a psychosocial intervention in the ED for pediatric and adult populations.</p>
<p>Methods: </p>
<p>A systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines was conducted to identify studies focused on single-session psychosocial interventions for pediatric and adult patients experiencing suicide-related thoughts or behaviors (SRTB) in the ED. Two reviewers independently screened articles identified using the key terms suicide/self-harm, emergency department, and interview. Medline, PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and CENTRAL were searched from inception to August 2018.</p>
<p>Results: </p>
<p>After screening 3234 abstracts, 29 articles were selected for full-text review and 14 articles, representing 8 distinct studies (N=782), were included. A high level of heterogeneity was present in the included articles, with 7 randomized-controlled trials, 2 nonrandomized-controlled trials, 2 cohort studies, 2 observational studies, and 1 feasibility study. Most of the included studies focused on adolescents (6 articles) or military veterans (7 articles). Strong statistical evidence of ED interventions improving outpatient service linkage was supported (χ2: 81.80, P</p>

<p>The ability to adapt at an individual and organizational level is considered essential to thrive in today’s business climate and world of work. The concept of adaptability refers to an individual’s ability to adjust to change effectively, and it can be presented as both an inherent trait as well as a skill that can be developed. The aim of the current study was to validate the factor structure of the Intentional Adaptability Quotient (IAQ) and to test a model of proposed antecedents and outcomes; 490 individuals completed the 56-item IAQ self-report survey online. Confirmatory factor analysis provided support for a three-factor IAQ model comprising of focus, courage, and curiosity as higher-order factors. The IAQ was found to positively predict change readiness and life satisfaction. This study offers support for the validity of the IAQ as a measure that can be used for research and in leadership and professional-development programs. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)</p>

<h2>Background and Objectives</h2>
<p>Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is associated with health, social, and academic problems but whether these are consequences of the disorder rather than precursors or correlates is unclear. We aimed to evaluate whether IGD in the 1st year of university predicts health, academic and social problems 1 year later, controlling for baseline health, academic and social problems, demographics, and mental health symptoms.</p>
<h2>Methods</h2>
<p>In a prospective cohort study, 1741 university students completed both a baseline online survey in their 1st year and a follow-up survey 1 year later. Log-binomial models examined the strength of prospective associations between baseline predictor variables (IGD, baseline health, academic and social problems, sex, age, and mental health symptoms) and occurrence of health, academic and social problems at follow-up.</p>
<h2>Results</h2>
<p>When extensively adjusted by the corresponding outcome at baseline, any mental disorder symptoms, sex, and age, baseline IGD was associated only with severe school impairment and poor social life (risk ratio [RR] = 1.77; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.14–2.75, <i>p</i> = .011; RR = 1.22; 95% CI = 1.07–1.38, <i>p</i> = .002, respectively).</p>
<h2>Conclusions and Scientific Significance</h2>
<p>University authorities and counselors should consider that incoming 1st-year students that meet criteria for IGD are likely to have increased academic and social impairments during their 1st year for which they may want to intervene. This study adds to the existing literature by longitudinally examining a greater array of negative outcomes of IGD than previously documented.</p>

<p>Acculturation is challenging for Chinese immigrant parents who have different linguistic and cultural experiences from their adolescent children. Yet, there is little research investigating the roles of acculturation and acculturation gap in the psychological adjustment of Chinese immigrant parents from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The present study is the first study to simultaneously examine the impacts of Chinese immigrant parents’ acculturation, their adolescent children’s acculturation, and the parent–adolescent acculturation gap on the psychological adjustment of Chinese immigrant parents in a low-income context. This study includes 225 Chinese immigrant parents (<em>M</em><sub>age</sub> = 42.93, <em>SD</em> = 5.97; 77% females) in New York City Chinatowns and their middle and high school-aged adolescent children (<em>M</em><sub>age</sub> = 13.77, <em>SD</em> = 2.27; 46% female; 75% US-born). The parents completed questionnaires that assessed their own acculturation and their perception of their adolescent children’s acculturation regarding English proficiency, American cultural acquisition, Chinese proficiency, and Chinese cultural maintenance. The parents also reported their psychological adjustment regarding self-esteem, life satisfaction, and depression. Multivariate regression showed that higher parental self-esteem was associated with higher adolescents’ English proficiency and a smaller parent–adolescent gap in English proficiency. Higher parental life satisfaction was associated with higher parents’ English proficiency, higher adolescents’ English proficiency, and a smaller parent–adolescent gap in Chinese proficiency. Lower parental depression was associated with higher parents’ American cultural acquisition. This study highlights that both acculturation at the individual level and the acculturation gap at the family level have important impacts on the psychological adjustment of Chinese immigrant parents in a low-income context. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)</p>
